One potential plus is that Iran/Hezbollah could be cut out of the picture, which will benefit Lebanon. But, as you say, it could end up anywhere. Sometimes a strong man like Saddam Hussein or Assad is the less-worse option than a hotch-potch of competing, religiously-driven militias that bring conflict & instability.Whilst HTS was spawned from AQ several years ago, they have been enemies of each other for quite some time. I don’t think it’s possible to predict which way Syria will go but the new regime certainly faces a lot of challenges. It could end up anywhere from full on Taliban-like to an almost free country. Anyone who thinks they know what will happen is deluded. I don’t think most western reporting understands the complexities of the situation there. I certainly don’t.
And, as City fans, we already know about western reporting. They describe our owners as "despots" when, despite their imperfections, they've delivered prosperity and stability to their people in a very volatile region.
