Talks with Drogba? (merged)

Reading his agents quotes it sounds like he is just fishing for a good deal (and a nice cut for himself) IO bet we get 1000s of agents phoning up trying to tout their players.
He is a decent player but his age won't justify the cost involved.

Didn't Zidane sign for Real Madrid for 40 odd mill when he was 30? Had five awesome years and played his best football. 30+ is no age at all these days as Drogba has proved over the last two seasons. He very rarely seems to be injured and plays and looks a lot younger than he actually is. 2 good years from this fella could make us the best team in Europe and pave the way for a successful future for many years to come. His experience in the prem is invaluable and would bring on the youngsters added to the squad, no end. I reckon if you asked any of the current City players if they wanted Drogba to sign the answer would be a resounding "YES!"

respectfully Zidane is a totally different type of player with different physical characteristics to Drogba for some very obvious reasons; goalkeepers can play well into their 40s, but that doesn't mean you're going to have a centre-forward lasting that long either.

The guy who put the Zidane post is right to a certain extent, although. Zidane was known for his skill, pace, movement and Drogba is known for his strength and speed. Zidane when he moved to Réal played a more deeper role, hiding his lack of pce what had caught up to him but had the movement to keep up with the speed of the game. He played a deeper playmaking role. Although he wasn't weeving in and outside of players every 5 minutes his passing was top-drawwer and had a great 5 years. Drogba, in my eyes would've been an amazing signing for £20m LAST summer. Drogba is different from a average stiker or a attacking midfielder, if he loses pace he can't sit deeper and hide it, he has to stay as the front target-man and bwhen he hits 33, believe me his pace will drop. No doubting his talent but i think if we want these players, go for the 'new generation' of them. Maicon and Drogba are one of if not the best players in their position. But, we due to having all this cash sould go for the new versions, for example; Balotelli - Strong, Skillful, Fast. Maicon is a little different as he is only 28/29? but he won't be bmbing up and down wings in 3 seasons but we will see won't we.

Just another agent trying to use City to get money from their players existing club.

Why? He's on contract till 2012.

Drogba would never go to City. He is still hungry for a Champions League medal, and going to City would be a backwards move and a step in the wrong direction. Chelsea will still get two good, maybe great years out of him, then he will probably go back to Marseille to finish his career.

-- Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:16 am --

Anelka is more about speed that Drogba is. Drogba is about strength, skill and consistent finishing. He also has good instincts, which is something that gives strikers longevity. He is quick to react and always finds himself in goal scoring positions when he's hungry. You feed the Drog, you get a goal.

What if he doesn't perform well in the first seven or eight games and is not confident and thinks 'ah well, im getting millions' and becomes a failure? When age inceases, perfomance decreases.

Not with every player. Just ask Del Piero or Zanetti who played 55 games for Inter last season at the age of 36 with a treble to show for it. Likewise, Drogba had his best ever season with Chelsea at the age of 32. Not every player peaks at the same age.

I know what you mean mate, don't get me wrong i believe some of the best players in the world in their positions are quiet old. Lucio, Zanetti, Drogba, Pirlo. But don't you think we are past the time of getting 32 year olds to have a good 1 or 2 seasons? come on mate, we all know if Drogba came it would be an easy £140,000-a-week for the last few years in his career. Go for the new generation City, not the old.
