Taylor for the Liverpool game

I still think the Sterling incident should have been a penalty and I still think Vinnie did not commit anything remotely like a red card offence. At the time I thought it was a great block tackle and I'm still of that opinion now. I thought Liverpool were lucky not to have more players booked at least and I share the opinion that there is something sly about Salah, unpleasant about Mane and simpering about "Bobby" Firmino. I have to admit, though, that my viewpoint is (perhaps highly?) partial, even though I try to be objective. So, I do realise that a referee might take a different view of certain events. Against Chelsea two seasons ago I thought he refereed exactly as a rag lovin' Altrinchamite would do but in the derby earlier this season I thought he had a good game. On Thursday he made several decisions which I disagreed with but the scousers were dissatisfied with him at least as much as I was and I detected no evidence of bias or an anti-City "agenda", and our victory, combined with that in the derby, seems to amount to fairly conclusive proof of this. I will still be concerned when he is given charge of any of our games but that, I think, "is just me".
It’s not just you.
Liverpool fans would complain even if we’d have had three sent off and give them them four penalties

In what way could that tackle be classed as ‘careless’?

He knew exactly what he was doing, won the ball and wasn’t in any way dangerous.

I was speaking with reference to the definitions (careless and reckless) under the rules of the game and which, relatively speaking, was the more appropriate tag, given that it was deemed a foul. In other words, I thought the yellow could be argued to be harsh and that it definitely was not a red. I suspect some refs would have gone for red, most yellow and the odd one would have let it go without a caution.

The only thing I care about here is that Taylor appeared to handle it fairly and did not show a red.

The structure, and other aspects (Who's the designated royal?), of the FA isn't really suitable. Large parts of Cheshire, as an example, are extensions of Manchester and Liverpool. Like Government in the UK, the whole thing needs a radical re-organisation. But the turkeys aren't going to vote for Christmas.
The interesting thing is that the Manchester FA covers the city of Manchester and up to 12 miles from the Town Hall. That's Wilmslow/Woodford/Little Bollington/High Legh on the south side and Rammsbottom/Egerton on the north side. So Mason & Taylor should be covered by the Manchester FA and therefore be ineligible for our games.

I was "screaming" for a penalty for Raz at the game and having since watched the TV coverage, I am convinced it should have been a penalty. I think Sterling had comprehensively done him with a change of direction and was held back.

Perhaps referees can register with an FA admin district that they don't live in.

No it's not just you.

Don't the no he had a particularly good game, missed the pen on Sterling, let them waste time but straight on us, double foul when Pep kicked off, stopped the game for a dipper head injury which wasn't etc

Obviously I have no proof but a pound to a penny without the goal-line technology he'd have given that clearance as a goal.
Hahah I forgot about about the ‘head injury’ when we were making a quick break with Liverpool out of position.

He's not a bad ref but when Riley did his Q&A in 2012 for Points of Blue, he outlined the criteria used when allocating a ref.
1) Shouldn't officiate a team they've declared support for or a team where that support might create a conflict of interest (e.g. a City fan shouldn't ref a United game).
2) Shouldn't referee a team from their own county association (Taylor is Cheshire FA whereas City & Utd are both Manchester).
3) Shouldn't be any other obvious potential conflict of interest.

To me, having a Manchester-based ref in games involving Manchester-based teams is an obvious potential conflict of interest. Mind you, Riley couldn't seem to grasp that having Bolton-supporting Lee Mason ref a game involving QPR when they were one of Bolton's relegation rivals in 2012 was a potential conflict of interest.

MAson did a City-Burnley game last year didn't he?

Yet he was happy to give Kevin Friend Spurs matches in the 15/16 run in despite Friend being a declared Leicester supporter.

Wasn't Friend an occasional guest there through friends of his, rather than a Leicester fan?
The FA changing that appointment was a truly awful decision.

Kevin Friend (born 8 July 1971)[2] is an English professional football referee based in Leicester. He is a member of the Leicestershire and Rutland County Football Association.

In 2016, Friend was controversially prevented from officiating a Premier League match between Stoke City and title contenders Tottenham Hotspur, due to him being a supporter of fellow title challengers Leicester City.[6]
