Teachers to strike?

@mancitymick and there you make my point for me, yes I knew what I was signing for and that's the pension I signed up for, couple of points starting is £21k not £25, I don't mind working weekends I prefer time off during the week, it's 2 days 2 nights, a sleeping day then 3 off, I still work same amount of hours as everyone else on an average 37 hour week. By the same token a squaddie knows what he's signing on for these days no one forces him and before you start I did over 12 years in the RAF and still have many friends serving who moan about the forces as much as many fireman et al moan, only difference is they can't strike!!

Next time you go on strike please thank all the members of the Armed Forces who did their best to cover your jobs. For me it cost me about 4k through missing a promotional course. As long as you lot think it is OK i am happy..HONEST. And reference MOANING in the forces you are correct. if someone in the forces is not moaning we know there is a problem. 12 years in the RAF, spent more time in a bath :)

I also personally think they should strike, they will find out just how little public support for them there is! The unions started building a war chest before the results of the last election knowing labour were going to lose, and as that fuckwit bob twatting I'll live in a council house whilst earning 100k a year Cnut crow said we will unleash hell if a conservative govt was elected! The teachers are going to be used for the latest showdown between militant line their own pocket union leaders and a democratically elected government, all be it a coalition! Can't wait to see the dibble bouncing his truncheon off my physics teachers bonce, now there is a twat that deserves it!

ffs if everything was as simple as that

1. teacher deserve a medal for putting up with other people out of control kids who have no respect for anyone of course this is a generalisation there are 1 or 2 good kids. :)
2. legislation has long be in to persuade unions and its member not to come out on strike.
3. its a fallacy that union members are any less selfish than the rest of us.
4. going on strike is not something anyone does on a wim not if you have mortgage, gas, electric, water, council tax, car loans, credit card bills, overdraft, university fees, student housing, pre-booked holidays daughters weddings.

Ye but you wouldn't have done it if you weren't ordered to, next time we go on strike there won't be any cover anyway I already know this from my mates in the RAF also Green Goddesses have been sold/scrapped. And don't believe all the bull about forces people saving people on the strikes, firefighters broke picket lines to do that. And as regards spending more time in the bath, it's nice to see how they are treating the guys now, no re engagements, redundancy etc, nothing like loyalty is there, I saw it coming in 2000 cutbacks etc more overseas detachments been used and abused and that's why I got out, now I have a chance to stand up for myself and if that means strike action so be it.

If I remember correctly, the last time LFB took strike action, they still maintained the pumps and had a crew ready at all times in case of major incidents. The only things that were affected were home checks, school visits ie non-urgent scheduled tasks. Also heard the LFB don't OWN any engines, they are leased from a private company.

Public sector workers are more skilled on average than private sector workers. This has always been the case, but the tendency has been increased in recent years as low-skill jobs have been contracted out, and the public sector incorporates more graduates.

Well if you say so.

Now where is your source for any of your information? Particularly regarding the self funding of public sector pensions.

@tueartsboots I'm not too sure on those facts tbh mate, I would find it unusual if they did but as in previous strikes if a call came through and it's a definite cert to be life threatening then lads did turn out, I think you maybe be right on the leasing of vehicles in London and a few 'scabs' manned them.

Found the story

Cover during the strike was supplied by private firm AssetCo, which signed a £9m seven-year deal with LFB last year.

It was using 27 fire engines and 170 contract workers.

LFB said protesters stopped fire engines entering some fire stations, but this did not affect the stand-in crews' handling of 999 calls.

Being a graduate and being a skilled worker is completely unrelated. If you had said had a greater % o total workforce share of professional workers I'd probably, on balance, agree
