Ten Away Games That Still Make Me Smile

Used my "red" brother's tickets for the derby when keith curles pen and david white should of won it, city fans were in fine voice that night. looked great from where we sat, loads of blue in the stretford end. Snidey get behind me shouting "half breed" every time curle got the ball.

I've 'only' been going to aways since the early 90s so won't be as extensive as OPs list, but here's my top 10 aways (that I was present for)...

1) Liverpool - 2002/03 - Won 2-1, Anelka with the last minute winner. Remains one of the most mental I've ever gone at a match.
2) Norwich - 2011/12 - Won 6-1. Tevez golf swing Say no more.
3) QPR - 2011/12 - Won 3-2. That Silva goal.
4) West Brom - 1996/97 - Won 3-1, and we were bloody brilliant.
5) Spurs - 2013/14 - Won 5-1, absolutely battered em.
6) Sheff Wed - 1995/96 - Drew 1-1. I had the time of my life banging the wooden seats.
7) Burnley - 2001/02 - Won 4-2. Goat hattrick.
8) Arsenal - 2011/12 (Lg Cup) - Won 1-0, Aguero with one of the best counter attacking goals I've seen from us ever.
9) Newcastle - 2000/01 - Won 1-0. First time at St. James', don't think I'd ever been that high up at a match before. Loved it.
10) Sunderland - 2009/10 - Drew 1-1. Last minute screamer by Adam Johnson (of all people) saved us a point.

Wasn't even born for most of the games people are saying and only started going to away games more recently so my list is very modern.

Blackburn 4-0 in 2011. Great team performance a few days after the Tevez incident.
Newcastle 2-0 in 2012. Arguably Yaya's finest game in a blue shirt.
Munich 2-0 in 2011. Disappointing result but a great day out, got to miss school.
Spurs 5-1 in 2011. We were sensational, Dzeko scoring 4.
West Brom 2-1 in 2012. My first memory of the Yaya/Kolo song. Great comeback to win.
Fulham 2-1 in 2012. Similar to Fulham another great comeback.
Wolves 2-0 in 2012. The day I started to believe we'd win the league.
Rags 3-0 in 2014. Moyes' Derby. Emphatic victory to put them in their place.
Everton 3-2 in 2014. City/Everton fans singing Steve Gerrard Gerrard for the entire game.
Norwich 6-1 in 2012. Carlos' redemption. Aguero & Tevez's link up was on another level that day.

If it's games I went to, then Newcastle away in penultimate 2012 season. In the Gallowgate end at the top in execs and couldn't stand the tension so got up and was walking about the bar area praying for a goal, next thing( literally 30 seconds after I got up) my two mates ran up to me going Ape shit..the rest is history, which apparently we have none of. Brilliant day and night had by all.. but none of us knew what was in store against QPR. ;-)

Blackpool in the cup late 80s. Last minute equalizer (from Lakey ?) after an insane scramble in the box, everyone went berserk

Got to be Blackburn away 2000. Like a city regatta day all the way to the ground. Absolutely battered in the first half (from memory they hit the woodwork at least 3 times) then in heaven second half. Got to shake Joe Royle's hand immediately after the game as well :-)

Other than the obvious ones, These three spring to mind.

United 2 City 2.... The day before the Full Members Cup final. 2-0 down and then Wilson and an Albiston own goal get us the draw. Then heading off to Wembley the day after.

My first away without my dad in attendance, Oldham 0 City 2 I think in 1984 I think Melrose and Parlane were the scorers.

And who went to this classic the week after we hammered Blackpool in Div 2 and thought we were going to win every game, sky cameras, Friday night, 3000 city fans make the trip.....it could only be one result, couldn't it?

Fulham 3 City 0......reality bites.

Bizzarely, the highlights to that game, including the scrambled goal, are on Youtube.

I thought about this game after I posted my off the cuff list yesterday. Went fucking mental when we scored. Banged my knee on one of the metal crash barriers when we were going apeshit at Lakey's late equaliser. Weird mixture of pleasure and pain iirc.

Fucking great day out.
