Terrible support (Sunderland view)

I have read the many views on here and this is how I see it.

I got there really early as we had made a full day of it starting off by getting to St James Park at 10am to show my lad around the ground. The first thing that strikes me now when I go away is that you do not see many large groups of lads who have gone down together. Our support yesterday was made up many over 50's even 60's, couples and families, I would say that only around 50% of our support was the "vocal kind".

Our vocal support was poor and we were outsung by the Sunderland corner and the Sunderland next to me. Their fans were well up for it and probably see us as a big game now we have this money and image ( just like we are up for it when we play Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool at home ).

Singing Bluemoon was great in the Old Kippax, everyone with their hands raised but FFS its all we sing now, 2 verses and its become dull and boring.

The fact is that not enough of the lads who used to go away and knew all the old songs, had a drink and got the away end going just do not go in the same numbers as they used to.

Our away support has attracted more families now because it is safer to go (which is a good thing) and therefore our vocal away support will be affected.

2000 males under 40 with alcohol = noisy atmosphere .

Sunderland : Your noisy corner was made up of 2500 males under 40 and very passionate ( well done ! ) do not claim that our fans are shite because you outsang a mixed bunch of kids under 10, grannies and girlfriends !

As much as people don't want to admit it, everything about this season revolved round that Carling Cup semi final.

Scunthorpe (although I wasn't there) was known as the best away game of the season (the height of the debt and other songs obsessing about United) and then we went there, lost to a better team and since CoMs has been dead.

In the league I've only missed one game, and shockingly I'd say that Stoke and Sunderland was actually one of the better atmospheres. I thought second half yesterday there were a lot of us at the back singing constantly, and I couldn't really hear the rest of our lot - but apparently we were shite.

As one of the knobs that starts songs, it makes me cringe when I try to start a PRO CITY SONG but it doesn't really take off yet singing shite like 'Ocean Finance on the phone' or 'The City is ours' gets everyone a singing erection.

Sunderland - I didn't realise you were also behind the green and gold stuff.

I'd go with this. Did anyone who tried to start anything going near the back get the funny 'what the fook are you doing?' looks like you get at home?

Sold out and didn't even go to general sale. The same happened last season. City have never sold out at Sunderland whereas we always sellout at your place.
pretty obvious isn't it? we are your cup final. You mean precisely fuck all to us.

laters.
Nah marra that's United. We have sold out all but two away games this season and one of them was Birmingham where we had 2930. Oh and we have sold out 5000 at Wigan the past three seasons. Obviously a bigger cup final than City.

-- Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:31 pm --

Wasn't so long ago you were regularly getting crowds of 35k in the premier. If you went down with record low points twice then you would say goodbye to a third of them. The last time we went down it under Murray it was the last straw for some who vowed not to return until he went. City couldn't sellout at half the away grounds last season and that included ones on your doorstep like Wigan and Blackburn and only had about 1400 at Sunderland. Whereas we were in a relegation fight, had a dreadful away record but still managed to sell out all but a couple of away matches including 3000 at your place.

Yeah, i agree. We did have crowds of 35k in the prem. But thats when we were at Maine Road which had a capacity of 35,191.

Being honest, its easy for fans of a small club like Sunderland to go to City and fill the ground as its the only way you'll see decent players.

Anyway, thats all im saying on this cos of you're silly 35k talk. 10years and counting mate. 10 years
We're a bigger club than you. We have better away support that does a hell of a lot more miles during a season. If we had Robinho, Tevez, Barry, Vieira etc etc and was challenging 4th place then we would have to extend the ground and no away tickets would sent back either. 36 years and counting. 36.

cant get my head round why we struggle to sell out for most games that includes home games but arsenal tickets are flying out the window, strange

Was it just me or did anyone think when they got into Sunderland town centre they had been transported back to the 70's?
Fuck me it was grim, the place really needs a face-lift.
The only new buildings i saw was the Empire cinema and the car park we were in

Just stop it you deluded little prick. Forest, Leeds, Derby, Sheff Wed are all bigger clubs than Sunderland. In fact no one in the football world actually gives a shit about you. Come back to planet earth there's a good lad.

I was told that we SOLD OUT our allocation by the box office....W.T.F

:@ Fucking morons.

ahh who care's what other teams think.

no the atmosphere wasn't great but not everyone that goes to the football is a singer and as said mentioned above there was a lot of older folk there yesturday with kids.

personally I sang at every given oppurtunity but we are all different.
