Terrible support (Sunderland view)

Have to agree with the Sunderland fans our support was sh*te yesterday.

Sunderland fans drowned us out and we didn't even put up a fight. Can't understand why our fans don't seem to be bothered supporting the team.

I was impressed with their support and guess what their very average team responded.

Don't buy into this 'the players need to put in a shift', 'the players didn't lift us with their performance' blah blah it's b*llox and piss poor. You're a 'supporter' that means you get behind your team come what may. As far as I'm concerned our team is not just judged on the pitch but off it as well and at the moment we the fans are letting the team down.

I was frankly embarrassed that chasing a top 4 slot that we couldn't sell out and those that did turn up (credit for that at least) couldn't be bothered to support the team.

There just doesn't seem any passion or desire from the fans I looked round yesterday and the apathy and lack of desire from the fans was just embarrassing. Every single fan from now until the end of the season needs to make a concerted effort to get behind the players and 'do their bit' if you don't then its a bit rich to criticise the players if they don't put a shift in.
Good honest reply.

Probably because you reduced our allocation you stupid fake geordies.
We never reduced any allocation. You apparently sent 700 of your 2700 tickets back. 2700 is the lower allocation. Sell them and you can request a further allocation like Arsenal got this season. As for the fake Geordie comment you're making yourself look like a post Euro 96 fan saying that. Being a Geordie does not equate to being a Newc666le fan you doughnut. If you knew anything about football support you would know a lot of Sunderland fans are in fact Geordies including myself. But hey why let facts get in the way of an uneducated dig.

So glad you are proud of your fans. They spit on people and are aggresive cos they lose 2 points. To be fair, if it wasn't for Craig Gordon you could have been on the end of a hammering.

Also, you're stewards and police made sure we weren't going to have too much fun inside the ground and this was made clear even before i made it inside.

I seem to remember quite a few of these amazing Sunderland fans trying to leave the ground before half time when we beat them at their place one year. Think it was in 2002/03 season.

Agree entirely. I think the expectations of getting 4th spot and the stresses that go with that have muted the sense of fun & enjoyment this season- not just at away games but also at home. The atmosphere at some games has been dire and embarrassing. Thought Sunderland support was very loud & vocal yesterday.

I bet if we were in a relegation battle- as we often used to be- the support would be much more vocal & passionate. Now it seems that some fans opinion is that 'we're near the top of the table, therefore we don't need to get behind the team because they should automatically putting in the performances and then the singing will come as a result of that'. To a degree, yes, we do need something to shout about, but ffs, look how far we've come, look at our team, our potential and our future- those things should be enough to shout about regardless of the performance.

Like I say, I think the pressure of so many of us wanting to get that 4th spot has taken away from the enjoyment, and that's a shame coz we should be enjoying every minute of it.

No one is crying about anything. Everyone admits it was a fair result. As for filling our ground that's a bit rich saying as we averaged more home supporters than you last season. You had 44735 against us this season which included a sellout away support of 2674. I was at your place last season and the top tier was full of empty seats. I think the crowd was under 40000 and 3000 of them were Sunderland. Classic case of pot kettle black.

You're the only club in Manchester and you can't fill your ground either despite challenging for a Champions League place and spending shit loads of money on top players.

You deserted your club in the lower divisions, we didn't....and we are averaging over 45k this season which is fucking good support so shut it.
If you want to make a comparison then here goes. When we twice finished 7th under Reid we averaged over 46000. This would have been a lot higher had the away support not been so poor. You are in a higher position this season and averaging 45000 with far better away support at your ground. Fact is we would comfortably sellout if we were chasing a champions league spot and had the team you have.

We are treat exactly the same by the blue coats every match but it doesn't stop us singing our hearts out for the lads. They were actually quite lenient with you yesterday and pretty much let you stand most of the game. The likes of Villa, Stoke and Portsmouth who only had a handful were penned into one small upper section and made to sit down for the whole game. So that excuse doesn't wash I'm afraid.

well dont turn up if we embarrass you.

A shit sunday game on mothers day doesnt help then add to that a team with no desire no wonder everyone give up singing. Sometimes we will be quiet but shit happens but it's getting boring fans coming on here and slagging other blues acting like your some fucking super fans. I didnt hear no blue singing for 90 minutes non stop so obviously you were all as quiet as the rest
