Terry Cooke and Tony Vaughan

Why write a book about two below average players? I would get it if they were cult city heroes but I don't think any city fans have fond memories of these two jokers.

Who would buy this book?

Why exactly is Terry Cooke a joke ?
he Added that bit of creativity and flair that we were lacking in Div
Dont you remember the North stand and Kippax singing 'city city sign him up '

Short memories some people

Hello all.

Never one to rest, I'm working on a new book already and I'm trying to track down the above two players.

However, I'm getting absolutely nowhere and they seem to have lost touch with everybody I've tried since finishing their playing careers.

Long shot, I know, but would anybody have any leads as to where they are/what they're doing these days?

Thanks
David

So the book is on the season we had in Divvy 3?
Or 15 years since the play off final maybe

Half a good season then once he got signed up did absolutely nothing. I doubt many city fans look back on him fondly.

Set up a few goals at the start of the 99/00 season then after missing out on southampton away due to missing coach due to being forced to do a drugs test he was never or rarely seen back in a city shirt
However what he did in his loan spell is enough to warrent not being called a joker
There were far more jokers in and around the club at the time who offered little or nothing to the club

Bit harsh giving Cooke and Vaughan stick. Both played their part in getting out of that division.

No it's not.

Rubbish players I don't mind about as they were poor signings who did nothing wrong, they were just not good enough. However Cook was good and then once he signed (for quite alot of cash) couldn't be bothered anymore. One of my least favourite players of that era.

No time for him at all

Considering the amount of stick dzecko gets on here and he scored the 2nd goal against QPR. I don't see why two mediocre players from those days should be protected from criticism.

I see where you're coming from. Dzeko clearly has bags of talent but often looks disinterested. Cooke and Vaughan had nowhere near the talent that Dzeko has but were part of a team that gave everything to get out of the division. Correct they were very very average but were still part of a special season.

Yes but though it worked out well in the end we should have stormed that division that year. I in fact remember that season as being absolutely awful with some awful performances until the backend where we went on the run. So although I look back and remember how great it ended I don't particularly look back on many of those players with fondness (with the obvious exceptions of weaver, dickov, horlock and the goat)

Yes I don't dispute he contributed and did well while on loan.

You're obviously having trouble reading my point. The reason why he is a joker is once he signed he gave up. As you yourself have insinuated there were many rumours about him taking drugs. If they are true then he's an even bigger joker than he first appears.

Anyway isn't the book about the whole team and not just these two? They both played their part that season (Cooke made a big impact as mentioned). You are right though. It was strange how he disappeared the following season. I just assumed the step up to division 1 was too much and Kennedy became our prominent attacking player.

Yes I believe that's what the book is about. However that season has already been covered in "blue moon rising" by andy Buckley and Richard Burgess. That's a great read so I would be surprised if a book on the same period could be better than that one.

my cousin nearly ran terry cooke over at a pelican crossing shortly after he signed for us. non-intersting fact for everybody.

Maybe, maybe. ;)

I can recall some decent performances by Cooke - Reading away. As for Vaughan - awful player and a Rag to boot. We even ended up getting ripped off at the tribunal to buy him.

Yep, cheers mate. I've tracked them both down and interviewed them both now.

In fact, I've tracked down all but one of the players I need to speak to for this book and have interviewed or booked interviews with most. The only one I've not managed to contact directly now so far is Shaun Goater - but the club are helping me out with him. :)

Cheers!
