Great OP and totally agree.

Coincidentally, I've just watched a re-run of the 2-1 win at the swamp from 13 months ago. I'd forgotten how good Barry was in that game - simply immense.

and three or four days later was top drawer again v chelski at wembley.

a superb player. one of the best professionals to ever play for City. no wonder the fat spanish waiter was so bitter when he turned them down to sign for us.

Ye Barry was a class act and he's had a really good season at Everton. What does piss me off is he's not flew to Brazil :( Even Lescott should have gone better than Smalling and Jones.

Barry and Lescott , have been great players , you can count on one hand how many poor games they had in a blue shirt , both consistent and giving 100% and neither rocked the boat when they were left on the bench , we paid big money for them , but they have been value for money , our trophy cabinet is proof of this , hope they both find a decent club to wind down their careers.

As the thread title suggests, I think it is only fitting that these two great servants of Manchester City Football Club have their own appreciation thread, now that their release by the club has been confirmed.

Gareth Barry was the modern-day equivalent of Alan Oakes; there can be no greater compliment, IMHO. He went about his job with the minimum of fuss and was never appreciated by many City fans (and followers of other clubs). Indeed, we spoke to an Everton supporter as we were all on the way to our respective matches (I think it was the night we played Sunderland and the Toffees played Palace) and he admitted that he didn't want Gareth to join Everton, but now, he hopes he signs a permanent deal with them.

Joleon Lescott formed a fantastic partnership with Vinnie and at times, JoLo was the better of the two, IMHO. These two, along with GB, were the principal reason that Joe Hart won the first two of his three consecutive Golden Glove awards. And although Joleon's appearances in the first team have been restricted over the last two seasons, he never complained or went crying to the press, as some would have done.

So thank you for all you did for our great club, Gareth and Joleon.

Your contribution to our rise will never be forgotten.
Well said, mate.

Especially the last two sentences.
am not so sure about the last sentence. people always forget with time.

OK. Put it this way. Their contribution will never be forgotten by me.

Both of them played a huge part in our resurrection. Lescott was considered overpriced and he was, but he was also instrumental in 11/12 when we won the league, and has never given less than 100%
A lot on here questioned the signing of Barry and still asked questions until the first time we played without him.
Most fans didn't see what Barry offered until he wasn't there. He's that sort of player and it's a great testament to Fernandinho that he hasn't been missed as much as he could have.

I wish them both the very best.

Big thanks to 'em both. The quick catalysts they have been have formed a solid transition from a team in it, to a team that will compete week-in, week-out.

Brilliant professionals and been a credit to themselves and Manchester city! The hard part of football but unfortunately the time as come to get younger models. Thank you guys for all your efforts and delighted you won trophies to shut the fickle people up who said you only chased the money.

Fully agree with sentiments expressed. You can't win trophies without players like Lescott and Barry and they did a really good job for us. Hope they end their careers well
