That Hamburg night in Manchester

The club should look at that night and use it as a blueprint. Cheaper tickets, able to buy 5 tickets, no priority tickets. This shitty 'emptihad' monkey we have on our back needs to be lost and it really could be.

Was a great night apart from the aggregate score.

Amazing how in 10 years we're now one of the top 3/4 teams in Europe & Hamburg are in the second division in Germany.

Best atmosphere at the Etihad was the derby in 2012, 1-0 Vinnie's header

No way. Atmosphere was good then after the goal, but then that was broken up by HT. It picked up again after Bobby had a go at Fergie, and as the clock ticked past 90 and we started to believe. Other than that it was tense as fuck.

One of, if not the, best atmospheres we've had at the stadium. Leicester at home after the goal, Liverpool at home and United for the League Cup semi in 2010, QPR game from 93 minutes and the 20th second to the final whistle were alright too, but nothing like Hamburg where it was the full 90minutes.

The key factor was that the ticket pricing allowed so many of the old Maine Road crowd - those that had been priced out, or in some cases had fallen out of love of going to the new stadium because of either money or atmosphere - could attend. That ticket pricing and the fact that the tickets could be purchased in person from the Arndale store, not just online, made it accessible for so many people who genuinely would support the team, rather than so many nowadays who come to the odd game and spend the time taking pictures on their iPads whilst the ball is in play. It was genuine fans. It was the fact that the club encouraged people to bring scarfs, inflatable bananas and it was the fact that by home game standards, I seem to remember there were an awful lot more people on the beer than usual - but I don't recall there being any price reductions.

It was great. The club COULD have that again for certain games, particularly the cups, by doing more affordable prices or early bird tickets for those fans who were previously season ticket holders (i.e. anyone on the supporters scheme that had a ST as far back as Maine Road - as they still have the data) as that would, in theory at least, reduce the number of tourists.

Trouble is, the club doesn't have the same appetite for that type of crowd, as it does for the touristy crowd, because 'money'.

Maybe at the end, but the rest from memory was pretty tense.

No way. Atmosphere was good then after the goal, but then that was broken up by HT. It picked up again after Bobby had a go at Fergie, and as the clock ticked past 90 and we started to believe. Other than that it was tense as fuck.

If you watch the Hamburg highlights, the atmosphere was dead just before Caseido scored
This Hamburg "best ever atmosphere" has become the biggest myth since the always fantastic atmosphere at Maine Road

Shows how far we’ve come as a club last few years, etihad was rocking that night! but if we played “only” hamburg now unfortunatly it’d be nowhere near the same

True, but If we played them now it would be completely different in general. We obviously got a lot better & they got a lot worse.
