Been a while since I originally did this for The Times, but most of the arguments centred on players further down the list and their relative placing. Be interesting, as we enter a new era for City, who people place as their ten greatest players to adorn the sacred blue shirt.

For those who can be arsed reading the full article, it's here:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_city/article5795355.ece" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 795355.ece</a>

For the record, mine were:

10. Neil Young
9. Tommy Johnson
8. Eric Brook
7. Francis Lee
6. Alan Oakes
5. Billy Meredith
4. Frank Swift
3. Peter Doherty
2. Bert Trautman
1. Colin Bell

Yeah, just intrigued to know who fellow Blues rank as the greatest players ever to represent our club. Only top 10 though, I know what a ballache it is to do 50.

We're entering a new period in our history, so it's interesting to see who people rate as our ten greatest of all time. Not your ten favourites, mind you. Otherwise we'll end up with a list of Shaun Goaters and Paul Dickovs, which misses the point a bit.

To be honest, it's hard to take anyone away from your list and replace them with anyone, except maybe Summerbee for Young.

Can we have an 11 though as my 11 would be:-

Georgiou Kinkladze
Yes he's my favourite City player of all time but i think he played a huge part in our history off the pitch. From the period of 95-98, our worst in history he was the main reason the majority of blues went to Maine Road, my uncle is one of the biggest blues going and he always says to me it was him that stopped him fucking City off and starting a Saturday team and that is saying something as he is a big blue! I imagine there was alot more with his motives. It's hard to get back into a routine of going to match's week in week out as we have seen with the falling attendances that haven't yet got back up to their high's even with a very good side. He may of not achieved much in his City career on the pitch but he did lots for it off it.

I dont want to sound pedantic but how can I assess players that I have never seen play? Also do we need to pick a player for every position or just the best 11? The other issue is whether to pick a player on how effective they were for MCFC or how good they were in terms of the English football.

Based on players I have seen play (since 1977) and ignoring positions and picking the players who have had the bigest impact on the blues, my best 11 are...

Kinkladze
Goater
Quinn
Tueart
Barnes
Corrigan
Bernarbia
Watson
Dunne
Hutchinson
Hartford

Not much arguing with your selection Ric. Although as a previous reply said, I cant comment on players I havn,t seen.
I can go back to Bert, Joey Hayes, Sammy Sambrook etc
Players that lit up my life include Wagstaff ,Johnny Crossan, I remember my Mam buying me a Shirt for Christmas with Matt Grays number on it. Trouble was it was an Everton Shirt (its blue isnt it ? )Cried all christmas , i was 35 at the time.
Ali B, Kinky. We have had some great ones , but Colin Bell stands out above all of them.
Loved TC. Not much help with your list I know, but it brought back memories.
