The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

Nice to have something like this. Techno, modern pop. Unfortunately it just falls short for me and I echo what most have said - it’s just too fluffy and meaningless

however, I do like the upbeat vibe, timed perfectly for the Sun coming out over the weekend - it sounds like one of those Summer Hits albums but when you get to side 2 and it slowly runs out of steam.

There is a 80’s vibe here every now and despite the criticism it’s an easy listen.

‘American Dream’ and ‘Stranger’ probably the best ones on here - both catchy. I’ve also added ‘Cellophane’ to my run playlist.

4/10

similar vibe - I love this track

I absolutely get what @GoatersLeftShin and others have said about having certain sounds they turn to that signal the advent of summer. I have my own, some of which have been with me for years although there is always room for additions to the list.

My go to summer sounds I associate with the days before I semi retired and had occasion to drive through the leafy Cheshire countryside to the likes of Winsford and Crewe, hardly places to savour in themselves but the journeys over from sunny Macclesfield...

Anyway to this- I can see why it might make a summer soundtrack but I'll echo others in saying that it all feels a little unsubstantial. In a way that doesn't matter, on in the background it's been fine and inoffensive and I've even found my feet involuntarily tapping at times but after a few listens none of it sticks in my mind and none of it is likely to make an expanding and evolving playlist for when I go for a drive just for the hell of it...

To torture the summer symbolism to death; there are times you plan the perfect summer day out and visualise how you think it's going to be. A nice pub lunch, a stroll in the country and one of those posh ice creams that come in many flavours. Now the weather may stay fine but sometimes you end up at McDonald's, the fields are full of cowpats and the only ice cream on offer is Mr Softee. This music is a bit like that. It's OK, you've still had a day out in the country but ultimately it's not quite how you'd imagined. It's a 5 out of 10.

This one benefited from having more time. First listen said totally not for me, not my thing, unlikely to like it. But it is very much a mood album and two weeks gave a bit of time to pick the closest state to give it a go. It actually has some nice stretches, and can be quite pleasant. The synth sounds are a bit of an unfortunate distraction. I'll go a 5 on this, when in the right mood.

I've had a jolly good listen now. Had it on in the car up to Whitby...never even noticed it was playing.

Inoffensive and washes over you. I should like it but I'm very ambivalent towards it.

It gets a 4. Nothing really wrong but nothing stands out. It's been done before and better hundreds of times.

Welcome back to the thread, everybody. Hope you all had a good Easter and are ready to get stuck into some new albums.

Somewhere in Prague, a City fan will be cheering as his last selection climbs off the bottom of the scoreboard.
A brave selection from @GoatersLeftShin, but Miami Horror's All Possible Futures turned out to be a bit of a horror show points-wise, with only one voter scoring above 5. 12 votes in total for an average of 4.33 puts them at the foot of the scoreboard.

Obviously we are back in the one-a-week mode (for now,) and there are two more weeks to go in Round #2.
Two of our newer members are about to make their first selections, and next up is @Coatigan , so feel free to give us some clues to your selection.
