The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

Given to the Wild - the Maccabees

Not a prime example of what I typically listen to in terms of type, and not really a band I am a big fan of (this one aside), but picking out something that challenged me and won me over and perhaps does the same for a few.

Came across it when I lived in London and consciously avoided the London scene bands, caught my attention and the rest clicked.

I'll leave the descriptions out, let people go in untainted. What I would suggest is, if skipping through it, skip sections of the album not sections of songs. i.e rather listen to a few entire songs, than and continue another time, than half of all the songs.

Favourites probably Forever I've Known and Go, while Ayla would be the most accessible song for first listens, and a good one to gage the tone and style. Otherwise, relax into it, embrace the softness, pick out the layers, hopefully enjoy it.

An excellent clue in retrospect. Heard of them, never heard their music.
On the long since gone ABC music thread someone posted Toothepaste Kisses, which I subsequently put on a playlist.
I’m sure I listened to a few of their albums too, as a result of that.
Looking forward to this.
