The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

A very good choice indeed @southamptonblue. It scored a rare 10 and got a good few 7s and 8s. Dog at Bay pulled in 14 votes for an average of 6.29, which puts it in a nice comfortable mid-table position.

I think the thing about this one, regardless of whether you liked it or not, was that it was an obscure choice that pretty much none of us had ever heard of. The fact that some liked it enough to buy it speaks volumes as to the value of this thread.

That's the end of week #31 and indeed the end of round #2. Normally at this point, I'd invite the next nomimator ready for tomorrow, but there's a slight tweak coming up .......
I’m ready with mine whenever you need me — either sooner or later.

OK, the slight tweak for round #3 is simply a day change. The summer season is upon us and I've got to prepare for a couple of holidays, so it suits my timescale to start each week on a THURSDAY and round up the scores on a WEDNESDAY. I do like the Tuesday slot and will probably move it back to this day for round #4 in the Autumn, but hopefully you understand my logic.

With that, here's the schedule for Round #3.

Note that a couple of the slots run for 2 weeks to cater for me being away.

12th May - RobMCFC
19th May - @FogBlueInSanFran
26th May - @BlueHammer85
2nd Jun - @Saddleworth2
9th Jun - @OB1
*** 16th Jun - @KnaresboroughBlue (Runs for 2 weeks)
30th Jun - @BimboBob
7th Jul - @journolud
14th Jul - @Bill Walker
21st Jul - @bennyboy
28th Jul - @Mancitydoogle
4th Aug - @mancity2012_eamo
11th Aug - @denislawsbackheel
18th Aug - @GoatersLeftShin
*** 25th Aug - @Coatigan (Runs for 2 weeks)
8th Sep - @southamptonblue

If anybody has a problem with their slot, please let me know and we'll rejig accordingly.

Any newcomers are welcome (providing they put the time in voting) and will be added to the end of the list.

We'll do some scoring averages tomorrow, and then I'll be along with some clues to my next pick on Wednesday.

A couple of days before we return to the UK so I may have to rethink my choice and have a farewell to the Czech Republic one!!

No probs with any week, so would swap with anyone who had problem...ie if away etc.
Glad a few liked Dogs at Bay.....hoping one comes up I buy after one listen!
Rob.....Naden is my fav too, "Gutful" album is more of the same, "Doomsday Ballet" the latest is more polished, not quite as good, but opener 'Morning Rain' is my 2nd fav song after Naden.

I actually had no idea they were critically acclaimed, but I can hear why they might be. Looking forward to digging into the rest of their catalog (already heard Mob Rules, which is also great).
Normally I don't like songs with a slant political message one way or the other but these songs focus on subject matter alone without bias.

Without sounding like I am pissing in your pot Fog IMO you can pick a good song and a good artist with an sound ear for good music that lasts and stands the test of time not necessarily commercial in fact often not which floats my boat but Opitz has always wanted to push forward bands he thinks can " make it " globally with a decent track record in that regard and I like the way you distinguish between music for dance and music for listening and emotion.

IMO this band is right up with the best SA has produced over the past 60 years and I include the Master Apprentices and Cold Chisel in that list and fortunate enough to listen to stations like 2JJJ and 3RRR that were quick to latch on to them

Its a valid and crucial dichotomy that can overlap that you refer to and often IMO forgotten about but needs to be spoken of whenever music is played.

In the old speak these guys rock , I think you will enjoy Doomsday Ballet a slight diversion from pub rock labels , Salad and Gallows are on my playlist.

Lou Reed comes to mind at least for me and a chance to listen to some brass as well.

Thanks. Always good to have backup plans just in case.

I'm going to listen to the other Bad Dreems albums over the next two weeks.

Can I encourage everybody to have their write-ups done one or two weeks ahead of time, just in case we have to swap the order at the last minute. Doesn't happen much but I'd hate for you all to be missing your weekly enforced album listen!
