The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

Typical. Deniislawsbackheel seems to be posting every 5 minutes in every other thread except today.

Anyway, I’m making an executive decision and calling in my back-up - @bennyboy. As benny is off to the match tonight, I’ll try to post a clue.

This album is from the late 90s and won a Grammy for best in its category. There’s a couple of legendary country singers guesting on this one.

Oh, and they make a crunchy sound.

You know benny's selection? I call shenanigans.

Ha ha.

Last time there was a no-show, he offered to step in if ever there was a similar situation. He sent me his selection a while ago because he’s off to the match.

Note that this is not an extra selection, he’s simply moved up the list by a few weeks.

Crunchy sound, I'd go with radiohead, ok computer. Can't think of any country appearences on it.

Dixie chicks, thought but they didnt win the grammy till 2000.

smashing pumpkins, adore

I'm completely ignoring the country singers bit and just going with 90s crunchy sounds

Lucinda Williams Car Wheels on a gravel road
Correct.

Here's what @bennyboy had to say about the album:-

Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.......Lucinda Williams.

My first female pick and one of my favourite albums of all time.

Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams, released on June 30, 1998, by Mercury Records. The album was recorded and co-produced by Williams in Nashville, Tennessee and Canoga Park, California, and features guest appearances by Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris.
Got into Alt Country through Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris but really got into it in the 90's through Whiskeytown,Wilco and Lucinda.
Then a free cd with the Uncut magazine Sounds of the New West another big influence.
Despite having 4 earlier releases this is the first recording I had heard from Lucinda and have been a huge fan since.
Brilliant live as well.
She has not been in the best of health recently but seems to be recovering so hopefully plenty more music still to come from her.
Story telling up there with the best.

Should be an interesting one. Not a genre I know very well (and I've never heard of Lucinda Williams), so looking forward to giving it a few listens.
