The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

Saw Green Day live this summer - took my daughters but have to say they put on a great show.

Talking of gigs and Bob Dylan live albums, I am off to see him in concert next month as he is playing a theatre gig in Oxford. Doubt it will be a match for Budokan, which I do own but have not played in yonks. Need to play some Dylan before the gig although there's probably not much on the album that is in his current set.
I'm off to see New Order and The Pet Shop Boys tonight!

Rod Stewart wrote plenty of his own stuff but he was/is a greater interpreter of other people's songs.
Rod the Mod and ’The Faces’ were very much part of the soundtrack of my early teens, in fact one of the first albums I bought was a compilation ‘Sing it again Rod’
famous for its cover in the shape of a Whiskey glass. It was a great album with tracks from his first four albums.Like BB I stuck with Rod until ’Atlantic Crossing’
On a side note Ronnie Lane‘s band after leaving the Faces ,’Slim Chance‘ we’re very under rated, lots of Mandolin, Banjo and piano and Ronnie wrote a lot of the songs as he did with the Facess, might be worth a listen to ‘Any more for Anymore’
Rob.

‘Play it f*ckin loud!’

Bob Dylan live - controversial pick but very happy with this

Obviously obsessed with Dylan but his live stuff has never really appealed to me, in fact the last few decades I’m sure he’s just taking the piss out the audience by being so bad! Almost would admire him more if he admitted that - Although 60’s he was superb and I think this falls 70’s where he had some good moments live despite a poorest period of producing Music in my opinion

The only live Album I bought of his was where he performed with the Grateful Dead in 89 (Dylan & The Dead) … It’s fu*kin awful , not only does Dylan sound awful, lack energy and motivation but it’s recorded terribly - sounds like they recorded it 2 miles from the stage

Anyhow, glad to have my fix of Dylan - it’s been too long and look forward to this

By way, My favourite of his is ‘Blonde on Blonde’ yet to be reviewed …
I agree ’Dylan and The Dead’ is horrendous, I like ‘Hard Rain’ with his Rolling Thunder Revue’ which included the late great Mick Ronson on guitar.

I've not heard all his 70s albums, but surely any period that features albums like Blood on the Tracks and Desire can't be considered that bad?
