Third listen in, although perhaps not in the best of moods (for some unknown reason) and it didnt get any better.
A review excitedly mentioned the sax solo which turns out to be subpar Kenny G that absolutely could be AI generated.
I got exactly that, specifically on Aqua Regia, noting down "lounge bar, stick your Kenny G".
At various points I did think that the lead singer (with delusions of grandeur in adopting "Vessel"...almost as nobbish as calling yourself Bono or The Edge) was saying, look at me/us, arent we so clever, defying labels and genres.
Then I am afraid there comes in the biggest annoyance for me in so much modern stuff...the bloody snare/hit hat clicking away in the background, in this case particularly when "he" is trying to go all R&B. particularly on "Ascenionism" & "The Apparition". Inbetween those we had the "lighters in the air" track of "Are You Really OK?"
Then we got to DYWTYLN, which I thought was perhaps wasted here with Richard D James being far more able to do something interesting with the recurring synth motif.
We then got to "Take Me Back to Eden", obviously in a bad mood as I wrote down "7 minutes too long", "No Thanks" & ""7.22 Why? Oh fuck off""
So going back to a previous review and discussion poinrts, there is very much a time and situation to listen to the weeks selection!
As ever I go with a standard 4 for something that I dont particularly "get" or like. However, in this instance due to the bullshit "lore" they are spouting and the naming of members its going to be a 3 from the Derry jury.
It would have been a bit too harsh to have gone for a "null point"...but maybe if i do some research and find that vessel is from Newcastle I may seek to amend that score.
....and begorrah & bejeesus a Happy St Patricks Day to you all
