The Anti Supporters Club

This is what people don't understand about the OSC. It's not a pressure group and it isn't in its remit to challenge or confront the club.

I've been in two jobs where I've been a member of a union and a Sports & Social Club. I didn't expect the SSC to fight my corner or represent me at a disciplinary hearing. And I didn't expect my union to provide me with a place where me and my colleagues could meet for a pint and a game of pool.
You obviously weren't a member of the RMT then?

So…. If the club told two groups to “kiss and make up” … how the heck do you think they are going to feel about 5 groups?

Mmmmm. :-)
Well the other groups don’t ask for tickets or players to turn up to events. The club has no physical hold over the other groups. They don’t have any bargaining power to bring the other groups under their control.

I have always imagined that the official supporters clubs are ramped with lots of people wearing jeans and jean tops with bucket hats laden with every badge and button about City you can buy.

Then the word official kicks in and you realise the only thing they are a fan of is themselves.

Too harsh?

:)

You paint a picture of a Status Quo gig circa 78-82

It’s hard to say. Kevin Parker is one of our greatest Blues and works 7 days a week to help fellow fans. Kevin and Alan Galley are in charge of the OSC.

I don’t really have a view over whether the letter is any good or not. Pep has already come out and supported the fans.

I will be joining the 6 minute protest because of excessive match day ticket pricing that affect fellow Blues.

I’ve got a feeling that we will hear about progress in reducing the flexi-gold set up fees in the next week or two.
Tim. Why not declare a mutiny and overthrow him? You’ll do a great job imo !

Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before.......

Flash back to the mid 90's and the Swales / Lee takeover was in full swing.
General Secretary Frank Horrocks was in the MEN stating that the OSC was 100% behind Swales - to a backdrop of major unrest amongst fans.

I had a letter in Postbag a few days later, asking Horrocks when my opinion (as a member) was sought, because it wasn't.
I even had an article published in the fanzine Blue Print with my favourite ever title - "A little (closed) shop of Horrocks."
A week or so later at an OSC committee meeting, the same questions were asked - and not answered - leading to a couple of branches (Chadderton one was) resigning and a few days later the Independent Supporters Club was formed (later becoming the Centenary Supporters Association) with 11 branches that had resigned.

The supporters' club has never been set up to challenge the club, but to support the club and in return they would get players at branch meetings, use of the social club and, yes, of course, access to tickets. I have said this many a time, they never have and never will rock the boat. That isn't a criticism. It would be if they were set up to challenge the club. But they weren't.
I remember that article

I would have more confidence if they appointed Sheila as their General Secretary.
Ten years ago I would have jumped at the chance @Tim of the Oak and I’d have whipped ‘em all into shape and sorted them out but I’ve run out of energy these days. Thanks for the faith in me though. :-)

Nowadays as I keep saying I just want World Peace! But I still enjoy the discussion and poking my nose in. *lol*

Nosey bugger. ;)

Blatant attempt at sidelining & minimising the protests, can’t wait for the next installment after Friday night

Also shows the club have played them like a kipper getting them to think they had ANY impact on the price freeze. The club going in with a phantom 2.7% was just part of the facade

Lots of clubs doing it, City would have looked ridiculous raising prices.

And the phantom 2.7% increase passes without a murmur, do to think the club would have then announced a u turn when it was not opposed?

Doesn't sit well with me writing to Pep like that.
Pep is the greatest ever manager, has clearly struggled with off field factors in his life.
Why would us fans want to put more pressure on him ?
Leave Pep out of this and let him concentrate on his private life, then the team.

Pep has shown many times he is a man of the people.

If he had been born as a normal average man in Collyhurst and not a Catalonian football genius, his personality and morals he has may have been leading these protests!

I’ve been critical of him in the past with his digs at our support but now I think he understands why that isn’t possible all the time, I can now also understand myself why he has made digs at us in the past, as he has been in his own little bubble.

He may be the answer to not only providing all of us present with many unforgettable memories, but also provide those in the future with the potential to make similar memories by just being able to afford and have access to attend games in the first place.

Peps legacy to international fans may be all the trophies but to local/UK fans it may be preserving the tradition of generations of families being able to be an active Manchester City supporter.

He is a big player in this and his comments about the Leicester protest and then sticking up for us at the weekend with his comments about bringing the semis up north tells me he’s aware of it all and is on the fans side.

Therefore the open letter is a perfect opportunity to gather more support for Friday. He will be asked about it in the press conference and i know for a fact he will once again come out and be on the fans side. More fans will be encouraged to join the protest which will hopefully have a bigger effect and a create a sense of togetherness with the fans and the team which will then hopefully spur the team on in the short term and look out for future generations in the long term.
