So defence is critical so we look like we are spending on it. But you think the best way would be to spend up top and win more games 5-3 and the like because that will make teams think twice about attacking us??

Pep will have a very organised defence - Mancini level organised. But his ethos is to play in the opposition half, that's how he defends.

As for attack being a good form of defence - look at us in the first season under Pellegrini compared to last. Our attack faltered, mainly due to everything being so slow and that gave teams confidence to attack, at which point they discovered we couldn't defend. A lot of football is in the heads of the players on both sides - look at the rags home record under taggart compared to how quickly it collapsed once the cracks started to show. Teams spent years just hoping to not get battered and suddenly realised they could actually win there.

So, Gundogan, Nolito, Sane in. Demichelis out. So we still need to open 2 non-homegrown squad spaces, not taking into account the possibility of more arrivals?

Would probably hurt our bargaining or stance on sales even more now for Kolarov, Zaba etc since buying clubs know we have to sell, no?
