given how this thread has deviated to shirt sales, perhaps marquee is defined as that player who generates the most interest and excitement in our younger fans regardless of price. Gudongan will be a key player for us, I'm an aging man, however my sons who wear the shirts and get excited about who we sign would have a very different view. Aguero on their shirts again this year. Unless we get a marquee signing ;)

Whilst the Robinho moment was fun, I'd much rather buy players who will be top of the game for the next 5-10 years and win stuff than have someone who makes Nike a few extra quid because some kid in Kuala Lumpur wants his name on a shirt.

I'm also guessing Deco and Ronaldinho shirts were more popular than Messi ones when he first broke through...

Yes mate, have you actually read the article?

The source is Euromericas http://www.euromericas.com/los-clubes-que-mas-camisetas-han-vendido-en-201516/ which is a South American Sports Marketing blog.

It's in no way "official".

It's the opinion of Euromericas, and then regurgitated on Sky Sports website.

This blog says Madrid sold 1.4m. It's not official either, because there are no officially reported figures available.

So there is no Actually figures out there on shirts sales? Seems weird that there isn't.
