Adebayor is a great striker who relies on chances. He is not going to pick up the ball in midfield, beat 3 men, then stick it in the top corner. Think of his goals so far for us, chances that have been laid on for him, which he has duly stuck away. How many times did one of our "creative" players give him the ball yesterday in the penalty area, in a position where he had a sight at goal?
What I kept seeing was Tevez dropping deep into midfield to get the ball, turning, then running forward with it trying to make something happen. Or Adebayor dropping out to the wing to get the ball, and looking for options such as the cross into the box (where he should be).
There is something, can't quite put my finger on it right now, not right with our system. We don't seem to be actually creating chances for our strikers. How many saves did the Hull keeper actually have to make yesterday? Even our goal came from a pot-shot which took a deflection.
If we gave Adebayor 3 good chances in a game, I'd back him to score 2. If we keep pumping the ball up the field from defence and expect him to bring it down, and make his own chances, then it just won't happen.
This isn't a "Hughes out" post as I have been "Hughes in" for a long time. However I am becoming a little worried that rather than setting up a system to play to the strengths of the players we have, the players are expected to fit in with the style of play the manager/coaching staff WANT to play.
