The Art of Taking Penalties

I couldn’t believe it when we got the pen and they put that graphic up showing where his last few had gone.
More than half were red dots indicating a miss.
I think 80% of penalties are successful so surely we’ve got at least a few players with an 80% conversion rate?

Was saying in another thread that there should be ways to measure who in the squad can cope best with stressful situations. Those guys should then be encouraged to be the penalty takers and practice regularly under various conditions, e.g. load sounds, excessive candle waving or spectacled bearded pot belly crazy smiley male streakers running at them.

75% but that drops when you're not winning.

I think with all the data available now it is getting tougher to score pens, you can't just have a favourite spot anymore, I think it's why more players wait for the keeper to move.

I watched a TV documentary on how to take penalties and can a practice session recreate the pressure of a match situation
No matter what they do there's no real way of creating a real life match scenario, but one of the best ways of applying pressure to the taker was to make the player walk down from the half way line, as they would do in a shoot out, and all his/her team mates would be instructed to shout abuse, take the piss etc, with several of them behind the goals trying to put off the penalty taker

Paul Gallagher for Preston takes the best penalties, have a quick look on YouTube if you get a minute

Today with augmented reality devices there's surely a way. A business opportunity there for someone?
