The battle for 3rd place

City, in 4th spot, are four points above Arsenal and United, but both have a game in hand and the Manchester derby is still to come.

our problem, and it has been a problem thats been around for a good few seasons, is our inability to beat teams around us. we simply dont turn up often enough in the big games. this puts us at a major disadvantage when challenging for the title or even the top four. instead we often find ourselves relying on our nearest rivals to drop points. nowhere near good enough
No fighters in the team, you need the fight against the better teams.

Does anyone remember that season, I think it was the one after we'd won the league. We might well have had more than one dimension to our game, looked occasonally threatening from a set piece, were able to defend, got to a cup final we should have won, scored plenty of goals and came second at a canter but don't be fooled. We were shite, with a crap Italian manager. This battle for 4th is much more exciting. Sarcasm aside, we are box office 'roller coaster' but would anyone trade it for a bit more 'round-about' pragmatism ? Can Pep get the balance right?

What specifically about tonights game, did you think was not pragmatic from Guardiola? Be specific.

Why do people think we'll make top four? We can't defend, we don't have any shape to our attack, and we don't have a plan B. There's nothing that suggests we'll suddenly hit this absurd run of form.

Yep. That's why Zabaleta would be in for me currently whether he is past it or not. At least he will die for the cause. Soft arses all over the pitch. No bottle
I do hope our "scouts" this summer concentrate on character as much as they do talent this summer because it'll make such a difference to this city side.

You could also say we're 2 behind liverpool in 3rd with a game in hand...

What makes you think we can't make the top 4? We don't need an absurd run of form, just normal service to resume after 3 very hard games against top 5 sides.

We've got the easiest run in, we've got a bunch of rivals playing each other and our record against teams outside the top 6 has been more than good enough to see us home.

Going into this game, we had got 19 points from the last 10 games. Chelsea had 22. That's Chelsea the runaway Champions, 0.3 points per game better than us. United had 18 points, Arsenal 14 points and Liverpool 15 points.

Anyone actually thinking we are "unlikely" to make the top 4 needs to give their head a wobble and stop being hysterical. Possibly get someone to give you a slap.

Personally I think we will miss out.
Some banana skins to come and wouldn't surprise me if we lost to the rags as we are incapable of winning when it matters anymore. No better than last season.

Because we're unbelievably profligate in front of goal, defensively a shambles and the manager doesn't change th system during games we're struggling in.

1st and 2nd position is done.

4 teams will fight it out for me till the last day...

Arsenal - will always be there
Liverpool - just as inconsistent as us
US - just as inconsistent as Liverpool
Rags - will be looked after until the end

We've conceded fewer goals than Chelsea in the last 9 games, and kept 4 clean sheets to their 0.

Is Chelsea's defence a shambles? We're the 3rd(?) highest scoring side in the league.

And the manager's system was working so why change it? You can't blame things on profligate finishing and the manager you have to choose one. The manager has done his job well, we're creating loads of chances, why would he change that? Perhaps he could take off the striker missing the chances? But injuries mean there's no one better.

So close? What team are you watching?
A team which was dominant against the three of the best teams in the league over the past three games

A team which going forward has shown glimpses of a very bright future

A team which needs belief which is not Lacking in talent

A team which needs an overhaul of its defensive players, we will address this in the summer and realise our potential

We were in a similar position in 2010/11 , the following year we signed the final pieces of the attacking jigsaw in nasri and aguero

Get the signings right in the summer and we will repeat what happened the following season

Might not b in it yet we need to harden up score more goals get a decent keeper and learn to defend better the a Sunday league side don't think pep,s the saviour we expected time will tell I guess

Rather be in our position
Arsenal still to play the rags and spurs
The rags have Chelsea at home and have to play at spurs arsenal and us away
