The battle for 3rd place

the level of dread at finishing 5th is huge, chelsea seem to be coping quite well!
But they were a title-winning team in waiting who had gone on strike under Mourinho. They didn't need re-building. This City team needs re-buildiing. Easier to do that with CL football, and it's also exciting to watch, or can be one you get to the latter stages. Monaco was the best game I have ever seen. 2nd best was Barcelona. You don't want to see the best pllayers in European football, playing under pressure?

Do you all really care about being in the CL so much ?

I couldn't give a fuck !

Get this season over, finish wherever we finish, get some new players in and then let's see what Pep can make of it.

Fretting over top 4 ? Nah, I'm okay thanks !

Yep thats my thinking dont give a fcuck about the corrupt European competition so if we aint winning the league bot bothered where we finish in the league but its the club who need champs league for the revenue it brings.

Again, if you're not in the CL then you're in the Europa League, we cannot finish 8th, so if you have to be in one of them its better to be in the one that plays Tues/Wed not the one that plays Thursday

How does it go after If we finish level points and GD with Liverpool ?

so a team that put 5 past Monaco and beat Barca very well needs re-building? bit of a contradiction isnt it?

im not disagreeing we need a few tweaks but i dont think we need a rebuild

All those fans bemoaning Guardiola are absolute fools. Turn the two Chelsea defeats into victories and we would only be 3 points behind them and that whilst we were still competing in the Champions League and they had fresh players week in, week out - shown by their lack of injuries (apart from against the rags of course)

Monaco are in the semi-finals and I don't really believe that over the two legs they deserved to go through and had a critical offside goal given in the second leg - they are in the semi finals.

To completely and utterly dominate the rags in both Derby games like I've never seen before...

This team isn't far away. We all know the main weakness is in the full back positions, address that with two very strong wing backs, Sergio and Jesus up front, Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling and Sane, wow, how you can not be excited by the prospect, well, words fail me.

Some of our fans need to give themselves a very serious reality check.

So yes, we will make the top four.

2, maybe 3 games across a season of 55. The quality is there but the consistency and energy isn't. The reason for that is we've too many projects/youngsters, too many players past 30 and not enough players in their prime years. Whether you want to call it a few tweaks or a rebuild is a matter of semantics. Since we've a minimum of 5 players leaving this summer and the same or more needing to be brought in I'd lean more towards rebuild, this isn't the summer of 2011 when all we needed was a quicker striker and some depth at attacking mid (Aguero and Nasri) with a squad all aged between 23 and 29 and on the rise.

Fair enough, but why? Do you think its better to be in EL than CL?

No admittedly i think it would be better for the club to be in the CL over the EL if we were definitely going to be in Europe.

i think Chelsea and Liverpool have shown how different it can be for squads that face a similar amount of games (none in Europe), one has clearly coped better in terms of injury days etc.

furthermore we've had a good few seasons at playing in 4 comps now and should be more adept at balancing the work load (like Spurs, like Chelsea have most seasons)

Lastly, if it becomes such a concern that all of a sudden we can't cope with european competition then we can play weaker teams and effectively forfeit it (a la West Ham, but on purpose).

And one more slightly silly point - i think wanting to finish further down the table just in case it might help us next season is a bit spineless and defeatist.

Before this season I would never have blamed 'bad luck' or bias for our season's outcome - but I can not help but feel we have been shafted. Add to that a poor conversion rate of chances created and ,as much as I hate the phrase, we have been 'unlucky'. Granted we have had 3 or 4 very poor displays, but outplaying Chelsea twice, Spuds at home and destroying the rags in both games suggests we are nearly there with Pep.
I am really excited about next season, so I will be renewing despite the 'match day experience' .A top 4 Finnish will help to ensure we get the final few pieces that are needed. Win our 3 home games and we are there.

Not saying I'm satisfied with it, mind, but to my eye, our match at the weeked looks like a point gained to United's two points dropped. Even if it's only against Middlesboro, we scrapped. We came from behind, twice. Have we ever done that, this season? I don't think so. It's much, much more often been the other way round. Steady as she goes. We'll get fourth, possibly third. And yes, we must get CL, because it's very hard to get the top players if you're not in it, these days.
