The battle for 3rd place

Whilst it's only his first year with the club, I would lying if I said I thought Guardiola has lived up to expectations thus far.

It's difficult to embellish a trophy-less season, in which the best we can hope for is third place.

Well mate if you split our league season into home and away form he has got one half of it right in spectacular fashion.

As ManCityX says earlier in the thread, our away results in the league are the best in our top flight history. Think about that - 80+ years of top flight football and this is the BEST away season in our history. Personally, I think that is amazing and he is done in it in a new league his way with possession football, dads army fullbacks, a shit goalkeeper and in a league where everybody says he can't adapt, no Plan B (hilarious IMO) and despite every other criticism aired on here.

If we score 2 goals against Watford it will also be our highest tally of away goals for, I think, since the mid 50s.

Sure, too many draws at home, but some of that has been outside of our control with the utter shit refereeing decisions...

Unfortunately City still have several players on the books who are just not good enough to play the Guardiola way....mainly defensive. However, I believe the upcoming summer transfer window will change things dramatically and next season could well be amazing....come on City.

If you alluding to Bravo, Guardiola only has himself to blame as he signed him. :S

Even though our away form this season has markedly improved, we have still lost five games and we only have one more point away from home than United.

If we were to oversimplify Pep's debut season by rating his performance out of 10, I don't think many would give him a score higher than 7. His tactics have been somewhat exposed by the stronger outfits this year, and his unwavering praise for our players hasn't always been justified. It has been a rather frustrating season.

How fans reckon Pep has done better than last season is a joke really. Best we can hope for is third!! Whooppydo last year we finished fourth won the league cup and made the champions league semis. Think that is better!

More points in the league, best ever away from in the premier league, more goals scored, better football to watch. We binned the league cup this year, just as we binned the FA cup last year. I've certainly enjoyed it more this season and seen glimpses of what the future could be once we make a few squad changes.

A win and a draw should be enough for 3rd.
Liverpool are only 1 goal behind us and have scored more than us. Hence the requirement for a clobbering to finish 3rd if we only get 4 points.
That said Pawson clearly has a preference for Arsenal after the joke of a performance in the FA Cup semi-final so WBA will be allowed to kick us off the pitch tomorrow.

I wouldn't give him more than 5. A shocking amount of pig headedness, a lack of pragmatism, poor substitutions and Tinkering on a Ranieri scale.
It may result in a better show next season but that is yet to be seen.

Come on, we need to give him time I agree but a trophy and champions league semi is better than (hopefully) just qualifying for the champs league.

You could also argue we threw away our champions league run with that team selection in Monaco with a two goal lead.

Shame bravo never worked out, kompany and gundagon were out for most of the season and the refs were truly as shite as I can ever remember.

After 10 games it all looked brilliant and maybe all our expectations got too high and after that it all ended a bit flat really.

Can't wait for season to be over and get excited about our summer business and all start the season with more hope of trophy (ies).

They absolutely did and as fans, why not but Pep even then was at pains to stress virtually every single week that we would lose games and mistakes would happen due to what it was he was asking of the players.

Its been conveniently forgotten as its way too easy to just have a go at him for some and band around words like "pragmatism" like confetti but he said it and guess what?

He was right.

He has also said that the job of turning this club into an elite club wont be done in 3 years either but it wont stop some having an emotional breakdown if we dont win the CL final next season against barca 10-0.

The league is the measure. We could be 12 points better off in the league. Will probably be at least 9. That is significant.

Me too but 3rd is hardly a disaster either, and we had two problems which made life difficult:

1) The cock-up with the goal-keeping.

2) Injury again to our captain - a hugely significant player, and injury to jesus who I think could have led to a sustained improvement in our form from january had he not been injured. I don't know the stats, but strongly suspect that our results with Kompany and Jesus are significantly better than those without.

I think you need to be patient and give him time. His record in the past has earned him that right. He has come into a very different league from what he is used to.I know
Conte has as well but Antonio has been lucky when he needed it. They are both great coaches ,give it time and our two great clubs can have a magnificent rivalry.

I think the quote from the great man himself sums up what he thinks of city.

“In my situation at a big club: I’m sacked. I’m out. Sure. Definitely,” he said when asked if he felt his job was under pressure after a season of relative underachievement.

He is basically using us as a filler until an easier job in Italy comes up, or until he gets the chance to return to Barcelona.

I find it incredulous that circa 75% of this forum think he's doing a good job whereas it felt like 90% thought Pellers was "shit" last season because he only won one trophy, only made top four in the league, and only got us to our first ever champs league semi final. And all that after being very publicly and disrespectfully cuckolded half way through the season.

We've waited 4 years for this man. Allowed his shadow to undermine two superior men and arguably better managers (for the English league at the very least).

I hope he achieves next season, there's no real reason why he wouldn't, but if not, what will the excuses be then?

You don't give Picasso crayons to paint with..

The squad has been allowed to age before our very eyes and hasn't been replenished to the standards expected to compete, on all levels.

Let's see what the man does with a paint brush before we call him out!

Fair enough but he has called HIMSELF out. Admitted that if city were a big club he'd be gone by now. And he's right.

He is the managerial equivalent of a big name player signing for a club he thinks are beneath him and thinks they should be grateful to have him.

Mark my words, views like mine will be in the majority sooner rather than later.

He's taking the piss.

He's stating facts, we aren't Madrid, Barca, Bayern, juve, it's his MO to make us such, that doesn't happen in 1 season with a club...

By all means pat yourself on the back if the season is a wash out, that goes for the rest of the doubters, personally though I see a sense of realism in what he says, honest, rather than belittling..
