The battle for 4th place

Mathematically we are not, but I'm sure the rags won't win out. The only way they win out is if we don't beat Arsenal. The they'll be motivated. Best Arsenal tmrw, and the rags will end up 6th. As they'll lose to West Ham and probably tie on Tuesday. Lose or tie against Arsenal, and it gives them the motivation to push through.

In my mind if we win tmrw, we are in.

??? How can they lose to West Ham and tie on Tuesday? They are playing West Ham on Tuesday and then Bournemouth at home next Sunday.

People said the rags would not win out last week and - poor as they were today - they ground it out.

If we open the door to them yet again tomorrow then they WILL win both games.

I am less convinced that West Ham will be fully focused as even a draw for us tomorrow (whilst letting United in) shuts the top 4 door on West Ham.

Last games at century old stadiums are notoriously emotional and it is very easy to get caught up in the occasion and not the result.

If it matters more to United on Tuesday based on our result tomorrow then they will have the edge.

We have to send a big message to scare the pants off United tomorrow.

That way we could qualify on Tuesday without going to win at Swansea....something I think we would all much rather not have to do given how they are playing with free flowing open football since they got to 40 points.

Khaldoon needs to go and have a word with these over paid lazy fuckers and tell them to do their fucking job!

If it mattered they might have. If it doesn't, who knows?

Last games at famous old stadiums often see the occasion getting to the home side if nothing is riding on it.

May 2003 - Maine Road - for instance!

West Ham lose today and a point for us sees them out of top 4 as they cannot catch us.

But a point means United win Tuesday and they only need to beat Bournemouth at home for top 4 even if we win 30-0 at Swansea.

Anybody wanting to gamble on that not happening if West Ham are out of contention for top 4 is being complacent.

And if City take that same attitude tomorrow and settle for a draw (Arsenal are safe and all but certain as in third if they get a point) - well we will commit suicide like we have been doing for weeks based on the widespread delusion that 'something will happen even if we do not win and we will still get top 4 as we are City' school of thinking.

Keep saying that and suddenly we will wake up realising there are no more chances.

It MUST be impressed on everyone that it is win or bust tomorrow.

Tomorrow, may change this, but at the moment I would still rather be in our position than theirs.

Of course, we are. Win two games and we are third in 8 days time and everyone can look back on these threads and giggle.

But tomorrow is a last chance saloon match. It is basically a play off for top 4 like Middlesbrough v Brighton was one for promotion today.

Arsenal are Middlesbrough as they only need a draw to be in. We need to win.

If we can be motivated and play the right team and everyone busts a gut for CL and the crowd roar from start to finish, we can do it.

If the team and the crowd are as scared and convinced that we are stuffed before we start.

We will be exactly that!

All about mentality tomorrow and who inspires the team.

Kompany being out is an enormous miss for that reason alone as if Yaya is given the job Lord help us.
