The '80s were a shit decade for music. Too much slickness, not enough soul. At least hip-hop was good towards the end of the decade.
I understand I wasn't alive to experience any of the 1980s, but surely you can't say a decade containing The Smiths, Pixies, The Cure, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Metallica, Tom Waits, Kate Bush, The Stone Roses, Dead Kennedys, Prince, Swans, Beastie Boys, Michael Jackon's best output, Husker Du, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chameleons and Peter Gabriel is shit?
Today, people can't even sing anymore. Just use Auto-Tune, and you've got a track.
Laura Marling, Beyoncé, The National, PJ Harvey, Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, Janelle Monáe, Tame Impala, Polica, The Tallest Man On Earth, Fleet Foxes, OFF!, Death Grips, Danny Brown, Sigur Rós, Fiona Apple, Killer Mike, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, St. Vincent, The Roots, Frank Ocean, Sun Kil Moon, Kendrick Lamar, Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs and Queens of the Stone Age.
You'll already be aware of most of those, if not all of them. But people can sing today.
