I don't suppose any of them were the most ever but all three teams who got promoted in 83/84 had both the Platt Lane and the corner of The Kippax rammed. Sheff Wed, Newcastle and Chelsea.
I remember talking to some Chelsea at Fulham that year and they reckoned they would have brought at least another 5,000 if the game hadn't been moved to a Friday.
Pretty sure we lost all three of those games too.
Don't want to sound disrespectful mate, but this isn't true. The Platt Lane was first given to away fans, season 1985/86. Up until that season, fans were only given "the cage", the strip at the side of the kippax and the adjoining corner. Wednesday had about 20-30 lads in the Platt Lane but on being sussed, they stood up and left(under police protection) peacefully. Neither Newcastle, nor Chelsea, had fans in the Platt Lane that season. Was anyone in the Kippax that season, when a mass missile throwing, free for all, (outside segregation at half time) with the geordies kicked off? I tell you, their tarmac must o' been looser than ours, coz we deffo came worst off.
