Not my favourite Gladys song but the other is just, naff. LW voice sounds like she knows it's dreary.

Gladys was a great singer but I never got on with that oh so smoothly produced soul of the early 70s. Does this one class as Philly sound? I really don't know but it's not for.me.

I do though love acoustic music in many forms. I'm not a fan of real yee haw country, but this is more singer/songwriter territory. It could almost be Shawn Colvin or Sheryl Crowe.

Now if the country you have on offer is Gillian Welch then she is superb. I hope somebody has picked her but regrettably I didn't.

Lucinda is an all-time great singer songwriter but car wheels is not her best though it's a great album. This is my favourite of hers

She has lived a hard life as well. She is not really famous over here but she is revered in the USA by all the biggest country/bluegrass legends as well as people like Neil Young and Steve Earle.

Indeed, I think @NZBlue mentioned both Shawn Colvin and Sheryl Crowe both of whom I like and have seen but for me LW is a notch above them. My favourite song of hers changes pretty much whenever I listen to her which I think is a sign of a great back catalogue. This week it's Righteously but next week it'll probably be something different.

Gillian Welch is the Queen of Americana. Fantastic. Her best album for me is Soul Journey with this blockbuster track
