The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Thank you. I'm not even that big a Springsteen fan -- at all -- but that was an uninformed-bordering-on-negligent comment.

And I own that CJ record. Voted for Bruce anyhow just on principle.

Re CJ: As a famous music critic once wrote about another band, it's always best to be suspicious when their covers are much better than their originals. To my point, Sweet Jane is the best thing on that record, by far. And the first single. Even they knew. Case closed.

Though I won't disagree when it comes to The Trinity Sessions I don't think that's true of subsequent albums. Imo they've got tons of strong material in their back catalogue.

Misguided angel is the best song on that album and to be fair, it's a live album and it's only their 2nd.

Murder in the trailer park and a horse in the country from the album Black eyed man are two other great songs from the Junkies.

Springsteen has made his career by fooling a largely American market, that he is their working class hero, their blue collar working guitar toting messiah and they have fallen for his crap, hook line and sinker.
The truth is he is writing about the mills closing and him getting laid off from his job in the lumber yard, whilst sitting in one of his many mansions or on his ranch. He is simply an actor, a snake oil salesman who has sold an image and people have lapped it up.
You can't really blame him I suppose but his music can be lumped together with Ben and Jerry's, The Kardashians and being told to "have a nice day". It's all plastic and fake
He made his career borrowing and scrounging, playing 5 sets a night, sleeping on floors, while writing what became classic albums, he seems to have stayed loyal to the musicians that helped him along the way too. I don’t know where he lives now, what he does with his money, nor what his views are but. isn’t it better not forgetting where he came from rather than singing about a life you think he has now.
His audience is also far from being mainly American, as his current tour would show.

I've never been a Springsteen fan per se -- he's from the opposite coast, never really had a crunchy guitar, nor a lot of pace nor as many hooks as I'd like -- but I do like many of his songs well enough, and I can see how and why he's beloved. Gainsaying his popularity or accusing him of snowing the adoring is just way off the mark. He's ranged all over genres like Dylan, puts on 3-4 hour shows, and his cornball Americana isn't anything like received or faked -- it's where he came from and where his roots are. I can get not being into him musically but to accuse him of not being earnest is his approach is just bad analysis.
