The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

This is another one that will be a massive victory - in this case for The Specials.

I've gone with the Go-Gos - I know "Ghost Town" is a classic, I know it speaks of the times, but for me it's much like Kate Bush - dreary 80s British pop that says nothing to me and doesn't have any guitar solos :)

I've gone with the GoGos. I don't expect them to win- there have been too many examples recently of the best song been beaten by the song with LCM memories and I think this will go the same way

But you Knaresborough hang your head:-)

Would have been booked solid for a decade playing prom nights in the 80s those Go Go girls. Surprised Molly Ringwald isn't on Bass.

Rob Lowe must have been the devious manager stealing their money.

Whereas the Go Go girls remind you of the first time you tripped on your shoe laces?

Quite like the Go-Go's, but fairly sure Head Over Heals hasn't had museum exhibits dedicated to it. (Plus, not many songs with a flugelhorn get to #1)

Normally I'm live and let live on music tastes but in this case I think revoking citizenship of anyone from the UK who has voted for the Go-Go's would be a fair and proportionate response :-)

I accept this would probably make Rob stateless but he could go and kip on Foggy's sofa or something.

Well, there's no question that California has produced far better bands and a lot better music than what was passing for music in the UK charts in the early 80s.

I agree with this, and I’ll add that God Only Knows is the most beautiful pop song I’ve ever heard.
In my top 10 pop songs of all time but my brother totally agrees with you its not only his most beautiful and amazingly the only on of two BB songs on his playlist but his favourite song of all time.

Many other songs I prefer to listen to time and again but hard to mount a counter argument in terms of melody and connection.

This is my favourite song from the Go-Go's , bouncy , great vibe , fun , and can't think of another selection quite like like it so my hats off to who ever selected the song even if its someone from the UK.

There are only three songs selected so far that I prefer to listen to than Ghost Town and this is not one of them so its the Specials for me.

Now you're just being provocative in an attempt to get us to club together to pay for your passage aren't you? You do realise the density of banjo's per square mile in California is shockingly low, maybe Fog's got some distant family in Louisiana that you could stay with ;-)
