This is a tough one because Gimme Shelter has always been one of my favourite Stones choons. That female singer in there...just brilliant. Her name escapes me now.

But Johnny Cash's version of Hurt brought that song to a whole new level. So poignant and beautifully done in a masters hands. It was nice to read what Trent Reznor thought about it too.

No vote from me. Gimme Shelter starts off strong with that great instrumental intro, but then goes nowhere. I don’t mind Johnny Cash at all, but this song does nothing for me.

Could vote for both, in fact I've gone for Stones as Hurt is a cover, only way I can separate them.

Lyrically clever, britpop banger vs brilliantly engineered melancholy love song.

Love both tracks, but Im Not In Love is the first piece of music I can ever remember listening to when I was a nipper, so it has to be that.
