The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Tricky - I'm a 10cc fan - have been since I was a teenager. And I love this song as much for the technicalities of layering all those tracks in a non-digital age as the melody and storytelling - at the time it stood out as something remarkable and different.

But, Common People is a wonderful storytelling song with lots of social comment and a tune that drives forward. All of which are marks of good songwriting in my book

So love them both - but voted for Pulp.

and still well worth seeing live - their musicianship is wonderful. There is only Graham Gouldman left from the original line up but really Paul Burgess and Rick Fenn have been part of the group now much longer than Godley, Creme and Stewart.
 
Clearly the 10cc offering is, by far, the better song. But, on Bluemoon, the better song doesn’t always win; go back a couple of rounds (The Specials vs Gerry Rafferty) for evidence of that. Or any round where M*******y or T** S****s win. As I suspect will be the eventual outcome. There's dark forces at play on here!
