The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

A fairly routine Smiths track here.

You could pick just about anything from Forever Changes and it should go through way into the later rounds.

That's quite a bold statement but I've just had a think about it and I think it's probably true. There is absolutely no filler on that album at all.

It's a totally random draw i promise you, but yes Nina Simone, Bowie and Love have been tough oppositions.

can also confirm there isn't a Smiths/Morrisey track for a long time after this one.

Hmmm, but have we had any independent verification that your balls haven't been warmed up??

It's all legitimate

3 out of 20 you have not heard before is hardly "obscure and quite frankly shit".

I think the 160 is likely to contain a lot of well known stuff, but it's good that people have nominated some songs that may be a surprise to others.

Nobody wants to see a list composed entirely of the same old acts.

The Smiths have had way too many already.
I am convinced I am the only one in the universe who thinks "Stop Me (etc.)" is their best tune.

Interestingly, whilst cited as unfair opposition to The Smiths - Love never really made it big or charted well, 'Forever Changes' peaked at No.154 in the US and No.24 in the UK when it was released.
It seems with the likes of NME/Rolling Stone etc doing 'Top Albums of All Time' lists that it finally got the recognistion and legacy status it deserved.
Id say Love is another obscure band. I know them but you do need to be a bit of an indie geek to know who they are (or an FoC). They are the kind of group you come across if you read stuff about music, don't think I've ever heard them on the radio or anything like that.

Same. Also I wouldn’t know of anyone who likes them or even knows of them.

Voted The Smiths through on this one purely because it's one with a lot of personal resonance and it's my vote so I'll use it as it want!

Wondered if this one may be a generational/age vote?
For me, listening to the Love track I instantly thought of lava lamps and joss sticks and perhaps thought it a bit dated. But then where do you draw the line between classic and dated?
Smiths again for me on this one.
