The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Lucky man, i've always wanted to see them. Not to fussed nowadays mind. love U2, Get a lot of stick but think they're one of the most consistent rock bands ever.
Boy and War are great records and Unforgettable Fire is quite underrated IMO. Joshua Tree also very good but a little overrated (how could it not be -- most hyped record in the universe then).

I'm working my way thru the greatest 100 albums of all time and tbh it's hard work but believe me the Joshua Tree and Stones Roses are nowhere near being the most overhyped albums.
At the TIME -- 1987 -- Joshua Tree was, among white, middle/upper class Americans -- especially men. Everyone breathlessly awaiting it. It was the same for The Police's Synchronicity in 1983 -- again, among a Yank middlebrow teenage/young adult subset. Can't speak for anywhere/anyone else.

Over here Stone Roses was well-received on alternative radio, but I definitely wouldn't call it especially hyped. I know I enjoyed it and still do though.

You were lucky then! Over here, the press had half the music-listening population believing that The Stone Roses had invented some new form of rock music that - wait for it - you could dance to!

Like nobody had ever done that before (or much better).

How dare you, um, uh... call it like it was.

My college radio station played a track off of Joshua Tree on the hour every hour the day as it was released. Only an obsessed idiot who had all their prior albums and saw them in concert for the Unforgettable Fire tour would cut all his classes just to record each and every track to have on cassette to enjoy (being too poor to afford the CD at that TIME).

Poor obsessed idiot
