The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Probably another no contest. I will freely admit in this instance I've really voted out of a love of Forever Changes as an album rather than the specific song.

From a session cobbled together in the circumstances it was, Back On The Chain Gang is a fantastic song. Chrissie Hynde has had a great career anyway but who knows what could have been if JHS had been there too?

Very true. I'm justifying it by thinking it's a bit like A House is Not a Motel is Samaras and Forever Changes is City. I know he's not all that but he's still in a City shirt so against my better judgement...

“A lot better” is my answer. I may be in the minority but I think nothing her band did after the first two records is remotely close to as good as the debut and II. Maybe “Two Thousand Miles”, which is a Christmas song. Not to say the post-JHS stuff is bad — I voted for “Chain Gang” anyhow — but losing his guitar (and Farndon’s bass) took the “oomph” away.

Yeah it was slightly rhetorical. JHS very influential off the back off just those two albums and prior to that working with the lunatic (in a good way) Robert John Godfrey so as well as driving the sound more I think he'd have had them doing different things too. A case of what could have been.
