The Boxing thread

Went pretty much as I expected. Not the same depth of talent in the ladies game. Lauren is no joke though and an all-round super athlete. Represented Wales internationally at football, 4x amateur world champion kickboxer, amateur boxing world champion and Olympic Gold medallist. Now a professional unified boxing world champion. Wouldn't want to be her sibling with my lack of achievements. Haha.

I can think of a handful who might have still been good enough to win a few fights over 40.

Not many who looked a shadow of their younger version though. And even if they are still winning, the body is designed to be able to taking that sort of punishment at that age.
I can think of a handful who are fighting at a very high level right now including a World Champ, a P4P Top 5 guy and a few who would give anyone a hard night.
As I said before each individual has a different backstory. Some are virtually done in their late 20's others are late bloomers particularly at higher weight classes.

Dick Mctaggart who won gold in Melboure Olympics has passed away at 89 a fine boxer with a distinguished career

I've always had a lot of time for both Michael Watson n Nigel Benn, always will.

Though i never really warmed to Chris Eubank (Sr) i can't deny the fact that every now n then he does actually nail it when speaking of this noble art, the rules, the intricate nuances, standards, conduct n professionalism, media etc et cetera...

Nothing but respect for Eubank for speaking the truth and talking from the heart
Boxing has become a pantomime promoted by greedy and bad intentioned ugly people
I take my hat off to Eubank, speaking the truth In a world of lies

If anyone is making a weekend of it in that London town, Eubank v Benn tickets are going cheap on our favourite site Viagogo - £34 at the moment.

Not quite the sell out that Edwardo was waffling about...

yet Another over-hyped bit of nonsense. fighters seperated by at least two weight divisions, both well short of world class, one with a drug test fail...shame Steve Collins lad isn't still around to spanner the pair of them.
Tottenham really is the perfect venue for it - overhyped, a misplaced sense of nostalgia and ultimately mediocre.

There's a place in boxing for this, it's prize fighting after all. Whether we like it or not, people have an interest in these kind of weird fights. I do think both are average fighters, with Eubank being slightly ahead because of experience but the weight and rehydration makes it quite close imo.

i agree. My issue is with the hype....this is a medium hall fight or perhaps a bit of a tasty undercard stadium showdown, dressed up as a classic 'fight for the ages'..the automatic rematch clause already suggests an outcome, after all, where would either go afterwards?
