The Boxing thread

Smith is a serious banger, Groves was rocked a few times by a single shot. I reckon Groves is done, his shots didn't seem to be carrying much punch and he himself struggled with a few shots to the temple. never seen him quit like that so I think the damage was the body shot in the end although the left hook was a beauty that would have been the start of Groves demise anyway. Groves has had a good career but at the highest level he's just fallen short. Too many tough fights now, having fought froch at such a young age. Smith is a belter, looking forward to seeing where he goes from here.

Yeah he was giving it large on IFL, he said something like: "I know I was a little bit naughty talking about your next fight but I've nothing against you really and lets face it, what you going to do about it? Absolutely nothing..." he sounds like a coked up 18 year old on a night out sometimes. You'd think he'd calm down as the years tick on but he seems to be getting worse.

He was clearly joking and started laughing at the end. He's said lots of complimentary things about Groves since the second fight and was happy for him when Groves became world champion. I like Froch - had a brilliant career and talks well. No doubt he's a bit of an arrogant **** but most of the best boxers are.

Did he say that to Groves?

I just think he's not very clever. Hell of a fighter, fit and a big heart, but not terribly likeable - unless yer from the Nottingham area.

No he was talking to that Kugan fella from IFL but talking as if he was expecting him to watch it. It's not word for word but even though they have a history none of us are interested in how he feels about Groves, so hearing him talk with such a lack of class or respect just reminded me of why I used to think he was a bit of a nob. I don't mind him being a straight talker(in commentary for instance it's refreshing) but a shit talker is unnecessary.

Hes had a lot of hard fights. Must have made a few quid from the 2 Froch fights alone. Might make his decision easier should he think about retiring.

I like Groves, I was rooting for him in the 2 fights against Froch.

Nah that was a swipe disguised as banter, he's never like that with anyone else. I mean "What you going to do about it? Absolutely nothing" there's no other way to take that if you know their history. They ain't exactly mates.

Like I said his straight talking is not so bad, shit talking has no place anymore though given he's retired, we're not bothered how he feels about Groves. I suppose it's not the first rivalry to have gone on past retirement but you don't normally have to hear them carry on about it so much.

Also wanted to say Callum Smith comes across as a nice humble bloke, especially for a scouser. He'll make a much better champion than Tony Bellew.
