The Boxing thread

I thought he was raised in or around Wilmslow ? I could be wrong though.
Lived in wythenshawe and Styal, boxed as an amateur out of Egans gym in wythenshawe, and anyone local to the shawe would have seen him running the streets continually as a young boxer. He even had Steve Egan in his corner for the Whyte fight.

Usyk is a level above .
A level above what Tyson was in his prime.
Joshua is just above Tyson's level now.
Even in his prime he wouldn’t get near Usyk who I’ve always believed even in his amateur days would be one of the greats but tbh I’ve watched a lot of fury but don’t see what people see and his resume is full of holes and take vlad out it’s average and Joshua isn’t much better so it will be a good fight .

Fury will beat Joshua if they do end up fighting. The fight will be over before it even starts with Fury getting in his head in the build up to the fight.

Usyk will then school Fury for a third time. Absolutely pointless fights in the heavyweight division on the horizon.

Most of them are at an age now in which they won't fight Moses Itauma. It's a really poor division right now with too many fighters way past their sell by date.

Indeed. I first saw him boxing at Wythenshawe forum about 20 years ago.
He was born in Wythenshawe, raised in Styal, but boxed for Jimmy Egan's gym.

Joshua is a prick, people forget that meltdown after he was humbled by Usyk. Fury is a lot more likable.

People also forget Tyson lost a child the week before his first fight with Tyson. Guys been through the mill for the past 10 years but still finds a way to come back

His family lived in Oswaldtwistle when he was born. Doesn't fit with the story though.

I have never heard that.
Mind you, I have worked with the traveller community and they do get about!
Moscow Mills Street site, the Dugdales too who are related. They all boxed at Hyndburn Lions at the time on an amatuer basis. John was often avoided in the club v club bouts, he would almost take a punch bag off the roof. I think it was Haslingden after that.

Thanks for that.
Were you involved with the club, or lived in the area?

Disagree that it’s a poor division

There are plenty of youngish hungry guys who are at or near or yet to reach their peak … Kabayel, Wardley, Dubois, Itauma, Torrez, Okolie

All the casuals will lap up the pantomime build up to AJ Fury but for serious boxing fans there are some great fights on the horizon not the least of which is the potential classic Wardley v Dubois next month at our concert venue.

Again a washed up Klitschko lol

Hardest hitting boxer who just struggled to beat Chisora lost to Parker & Zhang lol.

Wilder before Tyson had boxed absolutely nobody of any quality so no he wasn't a different version he was fighting bums

Run Usyk close but still lost twice and the first time he was saved by the bell.

Tyson also done fuck all.

Edit: Also lost to a Francis Ngannou who Joshua absolutely cleaned out.
Not much of that is true

Wlad wasn’t washed up at all, he’d beaten unbeaten Jennings and more impressively taken out an unbeaten seriously talented Kubrat Pulev in his previous two fights. A few months before that he’d comprehensively outboxed an unbeaten peak Povetkin in Moscow - a brilliant win in the lion’s den

Wilder was a totally different version when Fury fought him, he’d beaten the talented Cuban Ortiz who back then would’ve been a hard night’s work for anyone. Stiverne too was a decent durable opponent.

The Ngannou fight was an anomaly, Fury didnt have a serious camp for that

Wlad was 40 pal end of his career.

Didn't have a serious training camp for Ngannou is a bollocks excuse.

Again Wilder had only boxed bums name 1 top fighter he'd beat before he boxed Fury?

Fury overrated.

I explained why Wlad was very much not at the end of his career and I named Ortiz and Stiverne as credible Wilder opponents

It could be argued that Wlad had grown old overnight but I’d prefer to give credit to Uncle Peter’s brilliant game plan and Tyson’s punch perfect implementation of it in a hostile environment. It stands the test of time as one of the great world title victories by a British boxer on away soil
