The Boxing thread

Tbf this is the reason ufc is getting the next generation of combat sport fans...they generally have the monopoly in mma of top fighters bar a couple so big fights happen and they happen regularly. Boxing used to be like that.

True but boxing is now seeing the UFC as a rival now and your seeing more and more high profile fights being made or trying to be made now.

I know with matchroom. Look at the fights the Hearns are making for some of there fighters they are testing them in big time compared to Frank Maloney , Frank Warren and other UK promotors. I look at Frampton , Bellew and Brook and all 3 have been pushed on great by Matchroom. Thats what boxing needs is 50-50 fights.

Also I look at the Super 6 last year that was great for boxing and I can see it happening again. UFC is good but I just dont think it will over take boxing for a long time in my view.

With respect I don't think you can say Frampton vs Molitor was 50-50. Molitor was a hired punching bag. Carson Jones was supposed to be cannon fodder for Brook aswell but he made a right meal out of it. His last fight was also against a complete unknown, who was only marginally credible because he had a decent KO ratio against complete nobodies.

MMA is growing but it is still a long way behind Boxing. UFC come to the UK like once a year and they can't even sell out that 1 event whereas Boxing sells out arenas every week with less impressive cards and the same goes for the rest of Europe and South America except Brazil.

The Steve Molitor of 3 years ago would have beaten Frampton, Molitor was tailor made and is a shot fighter.

UFC and MMA has a greater American following and is white collar friendly, but it will never compete with boxing. Firstly it will never be an Olympic sport, secondly it doesn't have the same idiot appeal as boxing, e.g "yeah Tyson is going to kill Lewis"

Article by Thomas Houser (highly respected boxing journo), claiming that Mayweather has failed 3 of his recent random drugs tests carried out by the USASA, who in turn swept the results under the carpet. Well well well....

Hauser is a very respected and credible source. He wrote what is considered to be the only definitive and accepted biography of Ali
