The Boxing thread

I don't think the glass chin cliche can be applied so readily to heavyweights. When a 16 stone + man who can turn over a punch catches you clean with a power shot then it's usually lights out.

Is it true the shot caught Price on the ear and burst his eardrum? If so no wonder his legs went. Unsure what to make of it really if he is lacking a chin then he wont ever be as good as he should be

Where the shot caught him was more on the ear maybe a bit of the temple. His chin is still questionable as he hasnt taken a heavy shot on the chin yet. Maybe his chin is good but if you get caught around the temple area it can be harder for you to recover instead of a shot on the chin thats why his legs were like jelly when he got up more so than anything else. Catch a shot like that on the chin and you will go down but you rarely have the jelly legs. Normally they are temple shots that does that. As your balance goes big time and its harder to readjust.

If it perforated his ear drum that would take any fighter out. 9.9 times out of 10 that wouldn't do much to any heavyweight just sheer unluckyness really

I was shocked when I heard the result and the analysis on here on what a punch on the temple can do is enlightening.

I remember Larry Holmes getting caught flush by Earnie Shavers and he was a dynamite puncher. Holmes took the full count and was shaking his head to clear it. Luckily it wasn't long to the bell and he survived and went on to win the fight. A great fighter in my humble opinion and how he recovered against Earnie was amazing.

Tbf Kismet Larry probably had the best recuperative powers of any heavyweight around, they were unbelievable.

From what I saw I thought the shot caught Price behind the ear.

Price was on the radio earlier, said it was behind his ear, burst his ear drum apparently. To be fair he wasn't making excuses, came across well I thought.

Thanks for confirming it mate, I thought it was but wasn't sure, seen plenty of lads over the years with decent whiskers and yet still get troubled with shots like that, just a good shot on an awkward spot, he'll come again no doubt.

Losing a fight isnt that bad at Prices age. Fury doesnt have the greatest of chins it seems either. So just dont think either will be ready for the World Champions. I know for a fact that all these Promoters try and protect a fighters O for a long time but its a early lose like this will show us all what Price is made of. All he has to do is look at Tony Bellew who has come back well from a lost and has been in some big fights. 1 win away from a World title fight now so Price if he is managed right will be worked back up but should be tested in at least his second fight.

Wow just read Glen McCory on sky sports and what he has to say about mayweather is a joke, the fact he's never had to fight with a broken jaw or get up he's not an all time great ? hes seen more from Broner than in anyone of mayweathers fights ? WTF, does this man get paid to talk about boxing ?

Everyone has there opinion on Money. McCory is daft in what he is saying. Money will go down as 1 of the greats in boxing. Technically he is the best I have seen in my lifetime of 31 years.
I read a fair bit from Wayne McCullough on the Sky Sports website but McCory read a few of his and he can be hit and miss big time for me.

See Amir Khan v Julio Diaz in Sheffield was announced on the first ever Golden Boy UK fight night wonder if Sky will sign them up after working with Khan in his last few fights and only having Matchroom fights I am guessing they will take on the Golden Boy UK 3 fights a year contract too to broadcast it live in the UK.
