The Boxing thread

A good card from Matchroom with a shock defeat for Luke Campbell but he will learn loads from it and Kevin Mitchell were the only down falls from a British side of things. Eubank Jnr looked strong he was calling out everyone. I say the gym will be a bit strange with him and Andy Lee next week as Eubanks want BJS to win but I just got a feeling that the power that Lee has might get him the win next weekend. Should be a good fight to watch. Also Adam Booth will have a gameplan made for that fight cant wait for it just before Xmas too.

The guy who beat Mitchell looked huge, don't think Terry or Crolla would look forward to fighting him.

Past year or so I've stopped watching boxing, UFC is a million times more exciting for me.

I think Terry would have too much for the lad that beat Mitchell. As for Crolla just dont think he would be able to handle that pressure and punch power. Terry is just so under rated in the UK if he was on Sky he would be huge by now.

This weekend Billy Joe Saunders v Andy Lee should be a good 1 going for Andy to win by KO. Then hopefully we get to see Lee defending his title in Ireland.

Saunders is an ignorant gobshite up against polite and mild mannered Lee. Sadly, I can see Saunders winning on points if Lee can't get that killer punch in. I really want BJS to lose his zero.

He can't win really.

Destroys people in the early rounds and he's just knocking down bums and has never been tested. Goes 8 rounds with a guy who hit him flush a few times then he lacks a defence and has serious question marks.

To be fair, Whyte hit him with one clean reactionary left hook and almost knocked him out cold. And Joshua took ages to recover.

Whyte didn't land much else of note all fight, and the only reason he went so long was because his head is made out of granite.

There's a reason David Haye was so keen on getting to fight Joshua post fight, he knows how raw he is.

If Haye fought him now I think he'd knock him out, IMO. A couple years down the line Haye might not be up to much and on the decline while Joshua would be more rounded. If Haye got the fight now he could make a real name for himself stopping this apparently unstoppable young monster.

Joshua is a big prospect but he has a lot to learn at world level IMO.

I see Shane McGuigan and George Groves are teaming up together. I think Shane is building up a good team with Frampton . Haye and now Groves he has a few good top class boxers. McGuigan is only 27 and if he can take Haye and Groves to a world title that would be great for his reputation as a up and coming trainer.

I'm a big BJS fan. Reckon he takes this on points. Small possibility he get's Lee with a body shot. Not the biggest puncher, but not a light puncher either. I think he's the best boxer in Britain on his day. Fitness worries me though. Talented division.

Did Shane McGuigan ever box? I know nothing about him.
Shane did box a bit in the amaturs in Ireland but never done anymore than that. He got in with Carl Framptons team at the age of 22 with Gerry Storey as Carls main coach. Once Storey retired Shane went as Carls main coach. Shanes a smart lad he does everything for his fighters which include training them , strenght and conditioning and also the nutrition of all his fighters that gym is buzzing.
He has a lot of Irish lads in the gym Conrad Cummings looks decent. Anthony Cacace is 1 fight away from a British title fight and Josh Pritchard too looks a decent talent that is in the gym to. It does not shock me that the likes of Haye and Groves both went with Shane as the lad is a top top young trainer. I know Barry helps in the gym too but its mainly down to Shane training all these guys.

+1^..Whyte was game enough but he'd win a world title for being the most inacurate punch thrower in the world

I want Lee to win but believe Saunders takes this on points. There was talk of a rematch with Eubank Jr too.

I think Saunders does cut corners but could make a statement and KO Lee with superior skills. Who knows.. it's boxing after all. Eubank rematch will happen next year due to demand from fans. Again it'd be an interesting one, we know Eubank thinks he took his foot off the gas, but BJS could also learn from going the distance yet again. Could be a 50/50 fight with Booth in CEJs corner. It's a fantastic triangle of fighters. And then of course, there's GGG. If you have a belt, he wants it. None of the above stand a chance against him and would merely be a warm up for the Canelo summer clash.

Lee v Saunders doesn't seem to be selling. They were advertising tickets recently. I know Turbo Terry withdrew but the card still looks reasonable.

He also helped Freddie Flintoff somehow win a pro boxing match.

I would have been tempted but £40 a ticket 6days before xmas when I already pay for boxnation, really couldnt justify it.
