The Boxing thread

I actually feared for Quigg (before his fight) when I seen the nationalities. Spanish, English and Puerto Rican judges. That was a disgrace I was celebrating around my living room after the fight, I had the same feeling when Sol Campbell scored that disallowed goal against the Argies in France 98, I ran around my estate after it went in going for wild only to come back in my house with all my mates looking glum, Lesson learnt never celebrate prematurely. Gutted for the lad and fair play for not biting, pure class.

Well goes without saying that that was a farce of a judging. Never the less, Anthony has done himself proud and we all know who the champion should be.

Overall though was a good night of boxing. Really enjoyed the undercard bouts aswell. Didn't know too much about the show but was pleasantly surpised to see Tyrone Nurse, Sam Eggington and Martin Murray on the show.

Oh and i'm glad now I stuck with my instinct and didn't back Martinez against Quigg. Great performance from him and now maybe he will get the credit he deserves?

If the outcome is decided by judges it's not a sport. Boxing goes in with diving and gymnastics for me. Unless there's a knockout it's too open to bias/corruption to be taken seriously.

Why would you think anymore open to bias/corruption than say a referee or linesman ?

Referees and linesman don't decide the result, they call fouls like the referees in boxing. Clattenburg doesn't decide at the end of the 6-1 that the rags are actually the winners and everyone just has to go along with it.

Does this make them less likely open to bias/corruption ?

Fight last night was bullshit. Crolla battered Perez, own prediction was over in 4, when it went the distance and Perez got the decision I was shocked. Not the fight I watched if the judges called it that way.

No, but it limits the affect of their bias on the result. Obviously it still affects things and can change the result, but it's not nearly as directly and impactfully as a judge. The judges are also a lot less accountable than referees, they are a lot less visible. I honestly have no idea where they get the judges from or what qualifications or whatever they need or if they are part of some organisation? Everything in boxing is incredibly shady though

I agree
