The Boxing thread

Boxing referring will forever befuddle me. When I fought amateur I could understand some craziness to the point where the winner on home turf would give the loser the trophy as he had won it but pro boxing throws so much bollocks up.

I dont know what some people want Frampton to do more? He boxed Quigg in Manchester won the fight yeah the first 6 rounds were poor but Carl was dictating the fight for most of it. I just think a rematch wont happen any time soon. IF it does it wont be box office both made there money last night. I think with Carl he will have 1 more fight at Super Bamtamweight hopefully against Rigo I want to see it and a lot want to see it. It might be a snooze to watch a boxing match than a fight. It was a big fight for both Carl and Shane handled the pressure more than Quigg and Joe did. Joes tatics aint all that great. He has some good fighters but tatics wise why after 3 or 4 rounds he wasnt in Quiggs ears earlier than when he said Quigg was 6-1 down on the cards I will never know. I think most corners would be saying it earlier than he said it.

As for Carl he has more options than a rematch. A rematch with Quigg means that Frampton would have to drop both titles if they were to do that say in September. I just cant see Carl giving up both belts for a rematch so quickly. A fight with Rigo could get made asap same with Wake but if Carl moves up he moves up to fight for Leo Santa Cruzs belt and nothing less than that. I hope he fights Rigo first. I think with most things it will be sorted out by April and he will be ready to go in the summer for the fight. Leo called Frampton out last night. Carl called Leo and Selby out so i think he has 1 more fight at this weight and moves up. He wont come back down. Seems to me Carls power isnt there as it was before and a move up might help him seems drained at times in the final few rounds of the fight.

What an awful fight that was. Frampton just nicked it on my card but he took most of those first few rounds on intent alone, I dont even think he landed a shot its just that Scott decided not to throw any? I have no idea what Scott and Joe were thinking to be honest, and looking at the second half of the fight when they actually let their hands go Scott looked the better fighter and it was more of the fight we were expecting to see. A huge missed opportunity for Quigg.

The rematch would always be the best bet for both because of the money it generates, but with Quiggs broken jaw I imagine Carl will target Wake and bring him to Belfast for a big outdoor fight in the summer. Neither of them will step in with Rigo

people going very overboard with the " came to his backyard " stuff
he had a 30 minute flight and more than half the fans in the arena LOL not exactly Brook beating porter, Froch-Taylor or Honeyghan-Curry was it

Quigg was saying he is the home fighter in the press conference. Carl has boxed all over the UK while with Hearn who must be thinking he fucked up by letting him go. As Carl has been selling tickets and selling out arenas for years. Maybe Eddie Hearns worst decision to not fully support Carl. Also with the guard that Quigg went in with it was hard to hit him cleanly. When he did hit him cleanly Carl broke Quiggs jaw. The rematch aint happening and Hearn doesnt think it will sell again after that first fight alone.

As for Carls next fight if he fights Quigg he drops both belts and there would want to be stupid money on offer for that to happen so out of 1-5 chance of the fight happening its 1 no way it will happen.
Rigondeaux - Carl wants the fight but the Cyclone team are telling him the money for the fight is shit so on that basis I would say that fight is 3 out of 5 as it could happen if the Leo Santa Cruz fight doesnt happen.
Wake - Again like above no big money fight like above it could happen but I would say 2.5 out of 5 as if Carls fighting again at Super Bamtamweight it has to be the RIGO fight he really wants to test himself at.
Selby - I would say this could be a goer too another all British fight would sell well and they could do a PPV if it was promoted right also both advised by Al Haymon 3.5 out of 5.
Santa Cruz - Both called each other out this weekend and both want the fight both advised by Al Haymon 4 out of 5 for me it could work be a good fight and Carl will only move up weight to fight a World Champion or he stays were he is to keep 1 of his titles.

I enjoyed the fight. The first few rounds were like a chess match, Quigg wanted to get shots off but Frampton's footwork was top class and Quigg was wary of being countered (rightly so in view of his broken jaw) so he erred on the side of caution. Quigg came on strong towards the end but Frampton, well schooled in pacing himself for the championship rounds, saved himself for a textbook last round. I had it Frampton by 2 rounds.

No need for a rematch, Carl's a level above. I fear for Quigg's future now - he'll be destroyed mentally and a broken jaw can fuck your confidence forever (Ricky Burns demise was accelerated after Beltran broke his jaw). Maybe it's time for a new trainer.

Lucas Browne just bombed out Chagaev for the WBA title !! Excellent performance. That should lead to some big UK fights for him.

It certainly was, I've been watching some of his recent sparring on Youtube. Looks to have lost a good amount of timber and looking nimble on his feet, certainly for a HW. Fury improved with his footwork and this IMO allowed him to beat Klitschko. The heavyweight division is certainly a little more interesting than a few years ago.

Fair play to Bradley Skeete kept the crowd quiet by outboxing Eggington for most of the fight. Neat footwork and a jab that Sam struggled with from the off.
