The Boxing thread

Agreed he's not ready for chunky and i think Hearn looked daft sounding off (not for the first time) but he's a promoter and that's his job. He was talking a few weeks ago of Degale being on the card Saturday night but this now looks like May in London, he's not fought in Blighty for about 18 months. Still think he'll want Groves at some point, if he continues to impress under Shane, he's lost twice to Groves and will want to put that right.

I'm half hoping Shannon 'the cannon' Briggs shows up to the weight-in on friday... "Lets Go Champ".

Think Smith beats Jack comfortably although Smith has been a little bit open against Fielding and again on Saturday, although can't argue with the end result. Badou has ok power and can hurt and be hurt early on so it would be quite exciting. After that i wouldn't mind seeing him in with Abraham. I think it's very winnable and further raises his profile. I'd keep him away from De Gale for now because he's difficult to look good against. He's big at the weight as well but with Kovalev ruling at 175lb i can't see him moving up anytime soon.

Callum is good but he has yet to be tested he goes into a fight with Groves , Degale or any of the champions next fight he wont be ready for them and will get beaten. Feel Hearn can make either the DeGale or Groves fight next for Callum but he will not do so. Garantee it will be a warm up fight then a title fight with whoever it is who is the WBC champion
Agree, i think Martin Murray or maybe even Felix Sturm (although he would never travel) ares great learning fight for him and after that maybe Abraham or even Bute. All 4 would be great for his development and profile, and all 4 would potentially be exciting as they'd likely stand with him.

Would keep him away from anyone who can slow his momentum right now, so that's De Gale and both Dirrell's out of the window.

He could do with Groves putting some wins together really because stylistically it's a more appealing fight than De Gale 12-18 months down the line

I think Callum would get eaten up at 175 with the likes of Kovalev, Stevenson, and Ward. For now anyway seems happy at 168 and with plenty of decent fights out there no need to move up.

Yeah i agree, the only reason i mentioned it was because of his frame and his size and i just wonder how comfortable 168lb will be for him another year or 2 down the line. He's a big super middleweight.

On the flip side imagine the division and the options if Saunders or Eubank Jr were to ever move up.

I think any fights with Callum can be big money earning fights. Have him fighting Murray , Groves maybe DeGale it will all go into the same way of a big earning fights. As for the contenders in the Middleweight division in the UK you could well get 1 more with a title and have a super 6 tournament based in the UK. Could you imagine if they had 2 world title belts to finally find out who is the best UK fighter in the division. Ideally you would have CEJ and Billy Joe Saunders moving up from Middle to form the Super 6 out of Groves , DeGale , C Smith , Rocky Fielding , CEJ and Billy Joe it would be brilliant for the sport. Could have all fighting on the same night the 2 world champions against the 2 bottom ranked fighters and then then other 2 fighting each other. So it could well be a line up like this.
DeGale v Rocky Fielding , Billy Joe v Chris Eubank Jnr and C Smith v Groves.

Some fantastic fights could be made, just don't see Fielding in the same calibre of said fighters. As much as like BJS i think a rematch with junior would be far to risky, he's chasing the big fights such as GGG & Cotto and dosnt need junior, i also think CEJ would beat BJS if they had a rematch. Daniel Jacobs v Eubank is the fight I'd like to see next.
