The Boxing thread

Going to be a tough fight for Josh but hopefully we can make it 12 world champions, 4 more than any other country.

I've enjoyed watching Shannon Briggs in the last couple of weeks, calling out anyone that will listen. Great to watch in his day and no mug either, he's got 50 odd ko's to his name. Sadly for Shannon, the division has moved on and a fight with Haye would be crazy.

Can't see Martin troubling Joshua. He will be hard to put away, but bar the miracle swing, i can't see him standing much of a chance. He'll be tricky because of his size and he is a lefty, but he's so novice like. It's easy to see he had very little amateur experience. He over reaches with his punches and his balance is bad. I think the mart money is on AJ either on points or late stoppage. Be surprised if he rids of him early.

Think Hunter is a dangerous one for Selby. He's fast and slick. He can lose his cool a little and has a couple of DQ's on his record (one for low blows in a fight he was struggling in - against a Cuban who could have been a top amatuer if it weren't for Gamboa and Rigo). No shame there then. Think he gives Selby some problems. Could be a close fight. Banana skin.

Macklin - Rose could be good. Not sure how much either have in the tank. Both have heart, but think Macklin might be to near the end of his career.

Be good to see Groves fight again and interested in seeing how Conor Benn does.

In other news, noticed Frampton has been stripped of the WBA belt for not showing any willing to fight his mandatory - Rigondeaux. Can't fault him there hahaha. Although it makes a mockery of the jibes he was dishing out to Quigg about not being a proper champion. Still if he moves up and fights Leo or even Selby, i'll be happy enough.

I'm off to the bookies in the a.m to put some cash on it.

Gona put a few quid on Martin by ko just to make it interesting, and a few quid on AJ to blow him away in the first round 12/1.

He shouldn't get anywhere near a license in my opinion, not when his financials have been plastered all over the American press, it's for all the wrong reasons... I was speaking with Carl Thompson at Phil martins a while back regarding Haye, he reckoned he would still beat him now in his 50s (:... Still the cat!!!!

Load on Martin people (:

Joshua will win, I agree, but don't discount the southpaw awkwardness!!
Yeah the odds are good like.

Having said that, he stands out as a poor heavyweight champion even in this era. He's still really novice like with how he throws his shots. Can see it going into the later rounds because i expect Martin to be tough. Late stoppage or points i think. Anything early is spectacular.

I agree, this all seems very dramatised though, if not more than usual... Joshua has the Weapons to take him out early but can see it mirroring the Whyte fight somewhat...

Frampton is in a no win situation with Rigo. Rigo for whatever reason just wont or cant get a visa for whatever reason in the UK. He was supposed to fight Jazza Dickens but he flew back to the US. I know Carl would fight Rigo but it would make more sense if any fight was to take place it would be in Belfast were Carl could sell out a arena as Rigo and Carl wouldnt be a big draw in the US. Carl v Santa Cruz could happen in the US it seems and if Carl wins that he will become a bigger name there. Still feel Carl v Selby might happen to when he moves up.

As for AJ not too sure on either him or Charles Martin. I honestly think Southpaw he is a champion novice like but hes champion 7/2 to win the fight was too big of a price for him. I went for Martin I think AJ has a world championship in him but if it is now or in a few years time I just dont know yet. AJ just hasnt been overly tested on his chin.
