The Boxing thread

Looked like a premature stoppage, as John Keane has had a habit of doing over the years, but the referee has a better view than any of us and may have seen something we didn't in the lad's eyes.
He is a brave lad but he was shipping some punishment and might have been too brave for his own good. Sometimes fighters need protecting from themselves, the last thing you want to see is someone get seriously hurt.
Looked a daft decision to me, the big guy didn't even look shaky

Fury is a good fighter but doubt he'll hit World Class heights

The bloke Fury boxed only had 3 weeks notice of the fight. I think if he had longer he would of given Fury more problems.

Money could be in from any time from 3.30 am to about 5 am depending on how quick the undercard fights get done. Pissed off with Sky not getting the fight. I know they are showing Pacman v Marquez 3 later in the year.

I feel there could be a shock upset win tonight for Ortiz. Think with the amount of time Money has been out of the ring he has a chance of been caught cold tonight. Call me daft but you cant be fighting 1 fight a year or over and get away with it for as long as he has been.

I cant see mayweather getting beat, with his defence and ortiz's tendancy to go for the knockout from round 1 floyd will pick him off. Ortiz also isn't shy to being knocked down so I say knockout round 5 to floyd.

Don't know why people were saying that Firtha didn't look shakey, it's not just based on that, he was takin some seriously heavy shots there, just because he doesn't look shakey doesn't mean they aren't affecting him. Talk of Fury beating the Klitschos by his promoter are laughable, but then again its his promoter, thats what he's there for.

Can't wait for the Gayweather fight, the channel best not go off this time!

Smith v Selby on Sky is a good fight. They are throwing some bombs. I have Selby up but Smith is coming on strong. Done Smith to win in group betting by KO in rounds 10 , 11 and 12. I just cant see the fight going that far now.

Glad to see channel 5 keeping up the good work

Sykes v Buckland should be a good fight, be interesting, gonna go for for a Sykes points or a Buckland stoppage mid rounds.
Btw Leighton, Olubamiwo v Chisora 5th Nov looks on mate, tough and dangerous fight for Larry I think.

Dirty Harry got you mixed up with someone else in another tread I asked what Big Larry was doing. I feel sorry for Big Larry after that defeat to put him in with Chisora Warren is feeding him to the lions in my view. If Big Larry wins ir springboards him to the bigger British fights and more. I hope Larry is gettting looked after for this fight. His defences isnt that great and hopefully his team have worked on it. Would love to see him win it but its a huge ask.

That Buckland v Sykes fight was decent good fight. I thought Sykes would of taken it on points but Buckland won it in the first 5 rounds and picked up enough rounds in the last 7 to hang on. Sykes was ahead on the punches landed on the computer so it could of went any way.

Deffo a big ask mate, was surprised myself, as I say very dangerous and even moreso given Chisora is coming off a loss, only spoke briefly but he seems more than happy about it, hopefully, this time he'll get the time to get a good camp in and doesn't go doing stuff like 12 hour night shifts leading up to a fight and moving house on the day of a fight again :-S.

Holy fuck thats no way to get ready for a fight. I take it the fight will be on that Boxnation station instead of Sky. Warrens a **** taking his fighters off Sky and setting up his own station doesnt have a good fighters for it to work.

What did people think of Martinez at the weekend? Unspectacular performance imo, expected more from him. Time for HBO to stop feeding him bums and get him in there with the Cotto/Margarito winner, or someone like Pirog even. Could possibly move up to 168 as well, although he'd be at a huge weight disadvantage up there.

In my opinion watched the fight dont think Barker was ready for Martinez. Martinez just boxed within himself wasnt in any real danger and in the second half of fight up his level and took Barker out. Barker's record is shit Matchroom done great to get him the World title shot he hasnt even proved it in the UK or Europe in my view he was offered a fight with Andy Lee and turned it down to take a easy fight. Even his 2 European title wins he just done enough. Lee and Macklin in my view are ahead of him. Rumours of a Lee v Barker fight or Lee v Chavez Jnr next.

As for Martinez and a future fight I think we could well see him and Money fighting. Expect there to be talks between the pair. Martinez isnt the biggest Middleweight in the World if he can get down to Light Middleweight then it will happen in my view. A move up for Martinez in my view wont be on the cards.

Here is a press conference with Matt Macklin at the weekend and his plans. Its long but worth a look.

Anyone just watch the Lynes v Purdy fight, how did Ian John Lewis score that as a draw? Scandalous. Atleast the other two judges got it right.

It was a good fight. Never a draw. Lynes deserved the win his jab in the early rounds was brilliant all night long. Good fight for a Wednesday night.

The weekend has a huge fight Pacman v Marquez 3. Marquez has been so unlucky against Pacman over the years when they boxed he should of got at least 1 win out of the 2 fights so far. Call me daft I fancy Marquezs chances this weekend even if it is up at Welterweight. That 7/1 on offer is just too good a offer to refuse a little bet this weekend. Its got the makings of the fight of the year and I would love Marquez to do it should be a top night of boxing just a shame its on Primetime will have to find a stream on line that night.

Yeah it was shocking mate, and I'm pretty sure it's not the first time recently IJL has made me do a double take.

JMM has no chance. UD or Pac might even stop him this time.

Anyone see Kirkland/Angulo at the weekend? Brilliant fight.

Good fight Sky replayed the fight the next morning so I just watched that. Didnt think Kirkland would of won but he done it well.
The under card fight with Craig McEwan wasnt too bad a bit of a shit ending think the ref stopped it too soon. Kid Chocolate just done enough. Dont think he is ready for a World title fight. Maybe a eliminator with Andy Lee could be made.

Regarding Marquez since Money beat him he has come back stronger than before in my opinion. These 2 lads know each others game like the back of there hands. It will be another close fight trust me when I say that. Manny hasnt KO'd anyone since the Cotto fight and Money trying to get him to take the test for there fight. Maybe money was right because before then Manny stopped Cotto , Hatton , De La Hoya and Diaz during that time. I cant wait for the fight think I might look back at the other 2 fights in the next few days before the fight on Saturday night.
