The Boxing thread

If Mikey Garcia fights either Turbo or Crolla there will be troble for the 2 in my opinion. IF MIkey stays active he could well get back to the top. SO its vital Turbo v Crolla happens at the end of the year. The biggest pay day for both.
Some reports i am reading about the Frampton fight from the US are claiming Leo got robbed in the fight and that if it was in California it would been Leo gettting the decision. Fuck me hes is a American based Mexican Frampton was fighting in the US for his second time and put up a great preformance yet some of these writers really must think its the biggest shock of all. As Carl said in the build up Leo moved up when Carl was mandatory for 1 of his belts at Super Bamtamweight and after 2 poor showing in his last 2 fights Carl was looking weak. Yet moving up Carl looked close to being back to his best. The weight he was cutting is now no problem. Also they keep bringing up Carl not fighting Rigo. The guy just cant make Super Bamtamweight no more. So if Rigo moves up they could fight but sadly Carl doesnt need that fight any more with easy fights to be made against Selby and Russell Jnr were he will make more money.

Disapointed with Hyland last night. The Russell Jnr fight took a lot of fight out of him. Lets be honest he has been in with bigger hitters than Warrington but just couldnt cope. Being over weight too the signs were bad.

As for 2 weight world champion Carl Frampton delighted for the lad. It was a real good fight. Carls counter punching won him his fight his defence at times is good making him too hard to hit. Leo threw a lot of punches and missed a fair bit. Carl just out boxed him in there. Opens up another unification fight for Frampton with Lee Selby next I hope. That fight for me would be a more 50 - 50 fight as I rate Selby extremely highly. IF Frampton wins that then the Russell Jnr fight would be great too. Carls a 2 weight champion. Sky Sports will be all over him and his team for his next fight. He is sitting himself and his family up for life. Also he is a decent bloke too so respectful in the interview after it. Team Frampton.

Frampton's conditioning was bang on, props to Shane and the rest of the team...

Big 12 months ahead, although I think selby would be too good for him, cracking fight all the same!!

I really enjoyed that Tyrone Nurse fight. Coyle takes a worrying amount of punches though.

Whyte is a gobshite, but I'd throw him in with Haye. Perfect fight.

Frampton is a proper boxer. Nothing too fancy just dedicated and tough.

I think Frampton's achievements makes him the best British fighter by a country mile.

In an era where so many big fights fall through because of promoters and arrogance, he has shown a willingness to put it all on the line.

He travelled to Quigg's hometown for a unification fight, in what pundits were calling a genuine 50-50, and comfortably won.

Then in his next fight he travels to America to take on an unbeaten world champion at a higher weight division and wins that. Again when he was considered by many to be the underdog.

If all the other fighters shown the desire he has to be in the big fights then the sport would be in a better place.

Brilliant night and a fantastic performance by Carl. He's booked a bar out today, 'Anne Moore's' in Manhattan to celebrate with the fans.
Barclays centre is amazing, all the seats are padded and view was great. Downside, if you like a scoop your looking at $13.50 a pint.
Spoke to Quigg last night, said he's back in the ring around November.

Fair play Leighton, you called this bob on. The Irish fans we're superb.

Yeah i get the odd bit of info from the camp from time to time regarding Carl and it seems bang on the money. I think he has the big fights lined up. And Carl isnt with a big time promotional group like Matchroom or Frank Warren or Mick Hennessy all with Cyclone it shows that even the small promotional companies can get there fighters the big fights. His link up with Al Haymon too is priceless.
He can now pick his fights. I know they want the Selby fight next but they want it in Belfast but with both of them linked to Al Haymon it could go to the US. I think he Frampton will have many offers to mull over in the coming weeks for a fight at the end of the year. I think he only wants to fight up until 34 so its refreshing to hear him wanting to be in the big fights. I wouldnt be shocked if it is a unification fight next with Selby or 1 of the other champions. Or if Gary Russel moves up a fight with Warrington for the vacant title that Russel leaves behind. Carl or Selby could go and dominate this division. Also a rematch with LEO would be a big fight again.

As for Quigg i think he needs to focus on the Super Bamtamweight division see how he is when he comes back in the ring. Moving up Quigg isnt the greatest boxer in the world a come forward fighter. Carl has the ability to counter punch and coasts some rounds also he has some good punch power to stop fighters in there tracks. Leo has a good chin as does Carl but with everything Carl looking poor in his last few fights got him the big money fights with Quigg and Santa Cruz both fighters he was chasing for years. I can honestly see Sky all over Carl they dropped a bollock by not showing this fight as the Hearns hate McGugian and Carl but Sky will want to show a lot more of Carl in the coming months and years.

I spoke to Selby a couple of weeks back in Cardiff and asked who his next fight was likely to be, he said the winner of Cruz v Carl, he also said that'd it be the states if it was a Cruz win and more than likely Belfast if Frampton. Make of that what you will considering no mention of the U.K.

What's the biggest venue in Belfast that this could be held in? I'd guess December is the earliest this is likely to happen. May have to,put some cash a way just in case.

I'm a big fan of both though so it's going to be one where I'm gonna struggle to know who to support.

Yeah be interesting to see what happens Lee will have a few options too. The Josh Warrington fight would be a easy nights work for him. I think depending on Eddie Hearn and McGugian this might play out for a bit. IF they are the same as they are when sorting out the Quigg fight and the offer of a million pounds is made public they will have fuck all chance of making the fight. Whos the A side ie ticket seller its Frampton. Fighting in Belfast would be great but thats a summer fight if ever one with the Irish weather. Or if Frampton is full of confidence and fight in the biggest venue available to them on neutral ground would be better option. Hell who knows what offers each men get made. As Carl said afterwards its a business and he is in it to make money for him and his family can see him fighting for the bigger pay check and the Selby fight might need to wait until Summer 2017 while he takes on whoever it is in America after that preformance they will want to see him again this year in the US.

Have a Super 4 tourney to unify the division? Frampton v Gary Russel Jr and Selby V Cuellar (or Warrington although this would sell tickets not help unify) at the end of this year. Then Hopefully Frampton v Selby in the summer.

Problem being that with the exception of Selby v Warrington those are 50/50 ish fights so the ones Eddie Hearn would want to win aren't hugely favoured to do so. I feel that both Frampton and Selby both fight to the opponents level and always seem to have an extra gear or 2 in reserve should they need it so the above would be cracking matchups to make.

I think Haymon is involved with Russel Jr, Selby and Frampton not sure he's involved with Cuellar though.
