The Boxing thread

I think he will be back. At the end of the fight it always looks worst than during the fight in the earlier rounds. Seen plenty getting KO'd to then go on and win World titles. He has the skill and power. His chin might be a question on.

What's he got to offer beyond what we have seen. He was reduced to throwing windmill punches, he got out boxed. He circled into Woods right, not away. The main concern now is him retaining his faculties. Is he another fighter struggling to make the weight?

Looks like Conlon passed out before Wood start raining down on him, looks like the right grazed only
I was just about to say the exact same. I watched the fight and watched the clip numerous times and can't see Wood catching him with the right hand? It's worry that Conlan looked out as in "collapsed" before he fell out of the ring.

Hopefully gassed and collapsed out of exhaustion trying to dodge Woods punches, and not something nasty like another poster said, culmative effect of a couple of heavy blows

Shocked at the end he didn't need to take the risks. Shocked Adam Booth didn't tell him to just box at range. I would love a rematch as before that round Conlan was winning the fight by me.
Steve Bunce on 5 Live said the Conlan camp seemed nervous at the end of the 11rh about the score. They had been asking the pundits how they were scoring the fight (in the latter rounds). Maybe the Catterrall decision had an impact on Comlan’s tactics in the last? Just a guess.

FWIW two of the BBC pundits had Conlan up by 4 rounds and a further pundit had the gap by a minimum of 3 rounds at the start of the 12th, after giving Wood the 11th 10-8.

Thanks mate. The scoring was closer than the pundits expected and Conlan couldn’t afford to be dominated in the last rounds.
It was a Conlon masterclass from round 1 up until round 8/9 then he looked like he was starting to gas going into Round 10. The knockdown in 11 as well would go made his corner wary going into the final round. Incredible fight! Hopefully it's good news regarding his health that's the main thing. Credit to Wood too though he came through some massive shots in that fight and at times looked like his legs had gone but he kept going and plugged away. Takes massive balls that.

I disagree having been on the receiving end of a couple of dodgy decision as an amateur. The scum who continue to plague our sport, need exposing and punished as any match fixer should.
You misunderstand me; I’m not saying they shouldn’t be exposed, I just don’t think it’s going to get them anywhere. Boxing has stories like this going many many years; sometimes it’s been corruption from within the sport and sometimes it’s been just plain incompetence. I just don’t think in this instance that reporting the result to the police will get them anywhere.
I used Hagler as an example because he was shafted against Vito Antuofermo and made sure he wouldn’t give corrupt/incompetent judges the chance to do it again. (It’s ironically also why he quit after the Leonard fight which he felt he’d won.)
