The Boxing thread

Boxing is finished and has been for some time.

What a load of nonsense. Look at the Canelo Crawford fight. Look at how good Usky is. I train 5 times a week at a local gym and one of our pros is fighting on the magnificent seven card at the co-op in January. Hearn and Warren still put in great cards. Manchester has some great boxers. We are up there with the best fighting cities in Europe. So easy to just spout boxing is finished. It’s clearly not.

Joshua defo got all his mates to lump on round 6. Clearly pulling punches. Paul took a few hard shots to be fair to him but anyone could for 90 odd million. A farce and hopefully the end of this sideshow.

I cannot imagine a single scenario where anybody here would be staying up until 3/4am to watch that. Equivalent of an adult beating up a 6 year old child and then expecting to be taken seriously afterwards. AJ has done less to deserve a fight with Fury than Paul did to deserve a fight with AJ. Both are a joke to the sport.

I had work at 4am so watched it in the kitchen on my phone lol, defo wouldn't stay up for that shit

Same people that have been saying ‘football is dead’ for decades now.

I watched Ricky Hatton six times live.
Remember the first Benn v Hubank fights.
Tyson is his glory years.
So I can say it was better in my day without a shadow of doubt.

Sport goes through changes.
Tennis has lost the golden era of Federer, Nadal and soon to be Djokovic.
Alcaraz and Sinner will evolve a new age with others joining - (and there’s still gimmick matches all the time - Kyrgious v Sabelenka in a battle of sexes game coming up)
Snooker now has a Golden Ball in Saudi competition which O’Sullivan and the biggest names go and compete.
For better or worse, Sport evolves and goes through changes. It’s nothing new.

The fight was a but if a farce and clearly set up. But, I can't agree with Paul being a joke to the sport. Hes probably introduced more young people to boxing than anyone else in the planet and he has done more for women's boxing than any other promoter. He'll end up the worlds biggest promoter.

Smart man

Agree in a way, I think he actually felt confident enough first couple rounds and landed couple hits well but more importantly his movement to avoid AJ’s jabs was impressive, he’s actually mastered that pretty well. Do think he’s been training very hard for 6+ years now - that’s got to pay off even against the best, people make out his just a pranking YouTuber and ignore how much he has put into training.
That said, after 3-4 rounds the difference between a serious pro and non pro showed. It went as expected and I credit Paul In some ways but I’m glad AJ won very comfortably.

Same people that have been saying ‘football is dead’ for decades now.
People are saying boxing is finished for the fact its becoming a circus, not that the talent of fighters aren't there, imagine the Silver Birch Sunday league team calling City out for a game amd City turn up at Wytjenshawe Park with Haaland and co would anyone think the Birch would win? That's what is happening in boxing now

Or a team like Silver Birch making it to the FA Cup and face a PL giant team .. which pretty much happens every year.

They have been saying that since Dennis left us for the New York Cosmos. It is got no closer almost 50 years later. It was also predicted to be very soon during the 1994 WC.
its closer now than ever drink breaks and artea's planned time outs var taking longer and longer
only matter of time before we get quick word for our partners during game it might be subtle at first cameras focues on advert hordings but its coming

Yep but they would have earned their place there by playing opposition, not jist saying oh well want to play city, what did he do to get the chance? Oh I forgot he fought a boxer who had been retired about 20 years
